Classes Begin

Classes begin today here at Butler University. This semester I’ll be teaching The Bible, South Asian Civilizations (a core curriculum Global and Historical Studies course), and Heresy (which is, in essence, a course about early Christian extracanonical literature and the debates about and development of doctrine in the early church, but that doesn’t have quite the same appeal that “heresy” does).

The Heresy class sounds very interesting. It sure would make a good OpenCourseWare contribution. Maybe an iTunes University lecture series? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

I’m so glad you are still teaching Heresy, and always jealous not to be in it. The description you gave is kinda narrow though, have you taken out anything that isn’t early Christian? What about all the fun that comes later than the early church? Or the heresy of other religions? Well anyway, best of luck for your new year!Lydia

Hi Lydia! That course happened because of your input, as you may recall! It is essentially the same course, but with a bit more time devoted to Gnosticism and the Nag Hammadi texts. Thanks for commenting, and keep in touch!Stephen, I’ve always wanted to post videos of my lectures. Hmm…
