Podcast on The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell

I have said on numerous occasions that Mary Doria Russell’s two novels, The Sparrow and Children of God, are among my favorite works of what I can only call theological science fiction – works in the sci-fi genre that don’t merely tangentially touch on religion, but explore it at the core of their story.

Today, SF Signal shared the latest SF Crossing podcast which focuses on The Sparrow. Click through to listen and/or download a copy!

Did you find her Jesuit in The Sparrow convincing? I didn’t (at all).

I enjoyed Emilio Sandoz’s character, but I have not known enough Jesuits well enough to really say whether I think he could convincingly be one.

James, I have both of these (reading the Sparrow now). Do you have any other sugestions for theologically informed science fiction? Thanks!

Have you read Dan Simmons’ Hyperion and the others in that series? That’s another favorite that comes to mind (actually, I am still in book 3, Endymion).
