I’m against the death penalty, but I’m afraid that this was pretty lame. Jesus wasn’t even accused of deathly violence. To my knowledge, Mohler hasn’t advocated the death penalty for merely being a political/religious dissident. What am I missing? Closer would be if Pilate were trying to talk the people out of releasing Barabbas.

Well, some interpreters think Pilate was trying to talk the people out of releasing Barabbas. :-) And some think the Barabbas tradition is historically questionable at best.

Because fighting violence with violence was exactly what Jesus taught us to do.

One could presumably also misattribute that saying to Paul the apostle, or even Jesus. :l
