What All Students Agree On

What All Students Agree On April 8, 2016

Reading student papers this past week, it seems to me that students are in universal or near universal agreement about at least one thing: that no two people hold the same view.

I cannot help but laugh at the irony of this state of affairs – that student after student holds this exact same opinion, that no two people hold the exact same opinion.

But I still wonder how to get students to move beyond such trite statements, to recognize the complexity of life in a world in which no one is entirely like anyone else, but neither is anyone entirely unique, and in which it would be paralyzing if we actually allowed this complexity to keep us from drawing conclusions and making decisions.
