Two Religion-Themed Moments from Grammy Night 2012

Last night’s Grammy awards were full of moments both touching (Adele crying at her wins and singing for the first time post-surgery) and confusing (whatever Coldplay was doing up there). But although it’s nothing unusual for stars to thank God when they win an award, last night was pretty heavy on the spiritual references.

First, host LL Cool J opened with a prayer for Whitney Houston, whose death this weekend shocked and saddened many of us.

Later, the always-outrageous Nicki Minaj performed her new single “Roman Holiday.” It was a pastiche of The Exorcist, “I Feel Pretty” from West Side Story, and a bunch of other stuff I can’t even begin to unpack right now.
