I wish that there was an easy answer to this. It seems that the practice of ‘Manifest Destiny’ is alive and well in the evangelical church. Too bad for that. It seems that it’s going to take a concerted effort from folks inside and outside of that circle to decry this hurtful practice and develop new missiological paradigms that actually benefit people. Thanx for sharing this. Even tho it just pisses me off.

As I was reflecting on this I happened to think about something else that may be another consequence of the wholesale export of western religious politics. Voice of the Martyrs has been vocal over the years about the violence inflicted on various Christian nationals in non-western, non-christian cultures. They talk about huge numbers of people killed ‘simply’ for their faith. But, what if the primary reason is that anything christian is viewed as a political arm of the west? Paul wrote that there is no law against loving one another…and our enemy. But, ever since Constantine, and especially the Crusades, Christianity has been identified as a hostile political force. No wonder that folks in other cultures see it as a threat. Sorry for the rant.

Has this anti-gay movement become law there yet? It’s one thing for evangelicals to call homosexuality a sin, but when it becomes a crime worthy of the death penalty…that is beyond the scope of any kind of human reason. I don’t know how to stop them, other than to expose their hypocrisy and hate. It’s an amazing irony that Ted Haggard- former leader of an evangelical association in the US, would be facing the death penalty in Uganda. I guess they are running out of steam in America and have to spread their vile across the seas. Disgusting…

Thank you Mr. Schaeffer, as a gay Christian this saddens and sickens me to the core.

I have been following these people for at least 4 years now. They key is to shout it from the rooftops. Never let an opportunity go by that will allow you to post a link to the 7 Mountains website. It is all there in it’s glory what their intentions are. Also be very careful about the type of evangelical church you attend. It is safer to attend a mainstream protestant church but even some of them have been steeplejacked so always read their mission and “what we believe” statements. These people are everywhere some hiding in public office some outright there telling you exactly what they plan. They display hate for anyone who does not believe as they do. Point them out, educate others and read read read. They are a cancer on our society and they are everywhere

    Hi Frank,

The proposal to use the death penalty against homosexuality needs to be defeated. Too many Conservative Evangelicals fail to read the bible from a Jesus-centred perspective. The OT has the death penalty for homosexuals and a host of other things, including adultery.

Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets and he said that love fulfills the OT. He did not advocate violence but taught compassion towards outcasts. Homosexuals would have been numbered among the outcasts in first century Jewish society. Jesus did not apply the death penalty to the woman caught in the act of adultery and there is no evidence that he would have applied it to those caught in the act of homosexuality..

Jesus centred Evangelicals. such as the Red letter Christians as well as most liberal and Progressive Christians are horrified by this turn of events. I don’t know what the solution is, but as many Christians as possible should oppose the kind of Christianity represented by these right wing Evangelicals.

Frank, just keep plugging away at the fallacies of these theocrats.

    Shalom,
    John Arthur

I’m just wondering. The video mainly portrays Pentecostal-looking Christians. While it’s true that Christianity is the dominant religion in Uganda, mostly Christians do not belong to Pentecostal or Evangelical churches, but rather Catholic (42%) and Anglican (35%). I know that people there, Anglicans especially, are unusually conservative, but still, thank goodness it’s not like most people there are Evangelicals!
