White, “Christian” and Treasonous: Who Will They Kill?

The battle over gun control has exposed a truth the mainstream media is apparently too shy to mention: A bunch of far right white mostly southern paranoid extremists are preparing for armed revolution and apocalypse. They speak treason: literally.

They are preparing to “defend” America from America with arsenals of weapons and stockpiles of ammunition. Their “enemy” is everyone in America not like them.

They think the world is ending and/or that the government is out to get them. That doesn’t mean it will happen. But expect violence and assassinations. Their ideology is made up of equal parts racism, evangelical Christian fascination with the “end times,” hatred of president Obama, resentment of the “Old South” variety and a Fox News/Glenn Beck/Rush Limbaugh version of world “history.” As the New Yorker noted:

“Every demographic and political trend that helped to reëlect Barack Obama runs counter to the [South’s] self-definition:…The Solid South speaks less and less for America and more and more for itself alone… Solidity has always been the South’s strength, and its weakness. The same Southern lock that once held the Democratic Party now divides the Republican Party from the socially liberal, fiscally moderate tendencies of the rest of America… The South’s vices—‘violence, intolerance, aversion and suspicion toward new ideas’—grow particularly acute during periods when it is marginalized and left behind. An estrangement between the South and the rest of the country would bring out the worst in both—dangerous insularity in the first, smug self-deception in the second.”

The Republican/white/southern extremists make reasonable gun control impossible. Their cataclysmic irrationality risks taking the debate into the twilight zone, and that “zone” is a zone of violence: call it the civil war continued by other means. Some “leaders” in the pro-gun lobby have literally said they will kill to protect their right to arm themselves with arsenals that are fit for nothing but murder and war. These delusional paranoid white (mostly) southern Americans are a vocal minority, and they have extreme fears — gun confiscation, civil instability, a tyrannical government, a “takeover” of the US by the UN and that Obama is a communist.

If you pay attention to the rhetoric, you hear code words calling out to the types of people who declared Jan. 19, and Martin Luther King’s Birthday, as “Gun Appreciation Day. The event chairman, Larry Ward, said in the press release, “The Obama administration has shown that it is more than willing to trample the Constitution to impose its dictates upon the American people.” Andrew P. Napolitano, a Fox News analyst, said in a video posted on the network’s GretaWire: “Here’s the dirty little secret about the Second Amendment, the Second Amendment was not written in order to protect your right to shoot deer, it was written to protect your right to shoot tyrants if they take over the government.”

Wayne LaPierre, chief executive of the National Rifle Association, delivered a rebuttal to president Obama’s inaugural address. He accused the president of reducing the U.S. Constitution to “a blank slate for anyone’s graffiti.” LaPierre said the president “doesn’t understand you. He doesn’t agree with the freedoms you cherish.”

In a piece in The Washington Times, Napolitano said that the Second Amendment “protects the right to shoot tyrants, and it protects the right to shoot at them effectively.” By definition these “tyrants” are those who “don’t agree with the freedoms you cherish.” In other words they are the government representing most Americans who are not insane gun collecting survivalists, southern white males afraid of the world, and assorted Fox News watchers.

As the Southern Poverty Law Center notes, the number of so-called patriot groups surged after president Obama was first elected president. “The swelling of the Patriot movement since that time has been astounding,” the report said. “From 149 groups in 2008, the number of Patriot organizations skyrocketed to 512 in 2009, shot up again in 2010 to 824, and then, last year, jumped to 1,274.”

James Yeager, the C.E.O. of a Tennessee company that trains civilians in weapons and killing skills, posted a video online (removed but viewable at rawstory.com) saying: “I’m telling you that if that [guns are controlled by Obama] happens, it’s going to spark a civil war, and I’ll be glad to fire the first shot. I’m not putting up with it. You shouldn’t put up with it. And I need all you patriots to start thinking about what you’re going to do, load your damn mags, make sure your rifle’s clean, pack a backpack with some food in it and get ready to fight.”

According to MSNBC’s Zachary Roth, Larry Ward, “The lead organizer of Gun Appreciation Day … helps run a group that warns of ‘armed government oppression’ and a ‘world government.’ Another group involved in the event stokes fear that ‘Barack Hussein Obama’ will impose ‘martial law.’ A third promotes a fringe constitutional theory beloved by the Tea Party, and a post on its website describes public schools as ‘progressive indoctrination camps.’”

In the immediate aftermath of the Newtown Massacre, Ward called for the arming of teachers. “Quite frankly, I’m tired of the argument only being one-sided when there’s a tragedy,” Ward told reporters. “There’s only one answer: more gun control, more gun control. … This school was a gun-free zone, I believe. And the truth is, if there was one teacher or one principal armed that could have come in and ended the violence with one shot — with one shot could have saved dozens of children.”

Alan Gottlieb founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said, “We need to ban politicians who assault our rights, not firearms that are used thousands of times a day to protect lives and property from criminal attack.”

The Social Security Institute, describes itself as a “nonpartisan seniors advocacy organization.” Its website offers warnings about “world government” and the “New World Order.” And SSI’s president, Lawrence Hunter, wrote recently that “[a] heavily armed citizenry is not about armed revolt; it is about defending oneself against armed government oppression.” I.E., against our black president and the people – the American majority – who elected him.

Another listed sponsor of Gun Appreciation Day, RightMarch.com, urges supporters to “help STOP Barack Obama from grabbing unconstitutional powers to declare martial law through all of his new Presidential Executive Orders.” The belief that the president and the federal government will confiscate guns as a precursor to a declaration of martial law is a feature of most gun groups and their far-right conspiracy theories. It’s a line the NRA has pushed. And it edges close as an statement can to calling for the death of government officials.

All this has merged with the Paul Ryan Ayn Rand wing of the Republican Party. A post on the website of Conbustible.com, also listed as a sponsor of the pro-gun event, describes public schools as “progressive indoctrination camps,” and says that “the givers (sic) shove the producers out of the way as they waddle to the trough for some more free lunch.” (Score one for Rand/Ryan.) The implication is that the “takers” need to be put in their place– by whatever means.

Another post on the site, affiliated with the Ron Paul movement, promotes the theory of nullification—that the 10th Amendment of the Constitution lets states “nullify” federal laws they don’t like. This is a favorite of Tea Party activists opposed to healthcare reform and has been embraced by neo-Confederate hate groups.

I said this in another article and I’ll repeat it again here:

These people are literally ill with fear. And their world is turning lopsided. There is a black man in the White House and he’s winning, and worst of all he’s self-evidently smarter than they are. He’s not even angry!

It is time for the mainstream media to stop playing the Republican extremists’ game. Let’s talk about racism and white Southern males who can’t get with the program. Let’s talk about what’s really going on with “gun rights,” which has nothing to do with hunting or home protection or even the Second Amendment, but has everything to do with the delusional paranoia of people who really believe the world is out to get them because it’s changing from white to brown, from homophobic to tolerant, from exclusionary to inclusionary, from anti-woman to pro-woman.

I hope I am wrong but I think that sooner than later an individual or individuals are going to take this paranoid delusional call to arms seriously and kill one or more of our elected leaders.

Frank, this is really well done. Thank you.

    • Darryl B. Lawton

Well done? The man sounds like every other communist in this country. I really love how you put the quotation marks on the word CHRISTIAN. That really fits the rest of the article. Yep. Nobody is a REAL Christian, except you, eh, Frank?
You people kill me. The term “progressive” is nothing but a thin disguise for what you really are: communists, or socialists/marxists/fascists….. take your pick. Hollywood is full of people like you, Frank.
Treason is another good word here, another word for sedition. Look up that definition. It means to consort with an enemy……. the way that Barack Obama consorts with the Muslim Brotherhood, and al Qaida, who WE created and who the Obama administration just gave missiles to. Sedition is acts like giving assault weapons to Mexican drug lords, who use them to commit acts of terrorism within the U.S. and then clamping down on all records when Congress gets too close to the truth. (how does the word “truth” taste in your mouth, Frank?)
Sedition is legislating AGAINST the Constitution of the United States, which “progressive” elected officials are doing every day.

Well done? Hardly. You are the one who sounds paranoid. When the government fears its people, there is freedom…….. when the people fear their government, there is tyranny.

But then again, you don’t need a “dictionary” to read and UNDERSTAND “The Constitution!” It’s written in PLAIN ENGLISH! YOUR sucking wind because of “HILLBILLIES!” Keep reading friend…soon you come across what matters!

      • Kris Fox

        Sadly, I agree.

    • Billy Boggs

You have to laugh at the breathless paranoia of this author.

The NRA has nearly 5 million members, vastly outweighing the tiny collections of jabbering hard-left nut jobs the author represents.

The hard-left extremist reaction of people such as the author: Frank Schaeffer, to NRA Pres. LaPierre’s call for more school security is telling. According to the author and to fringe groups like the SPLC, LaPierre’s speech was the height of evil, despite the fact that LaPierre’s proposals were identical to Pres. Bill Clinton’s proposals in the wake of the Columbine shootings.

Extremism indeed. The SPLC and the author are far more interested in promoting their rabid hard-left political agenda than in the safety of our children.

Well done? Yes, perfect execution of a quisling/Judenrat platform.

Frank (or better, for readers who are not in the bag for the regime),

Here’s an idea … If nobody wants a ‘civil disturbance,’ why in the hell don’t they quit disturbing us?

Remember, it’s only a conspiracy THEORY if it’s not true.

When terror comes in a government vehicle, as it has so many times in the past after the common man is disarmed “for his own good,” what minority will be the first victim? To maintain order and distract the masses from their government’s daily failings they will manufacture a boogey man who is responsible for all suffering and they will become the first to either die or be reeducated. We learn nothing and are taught nothing from history and are doomed to repeat it. And they say a government education has no value, it serves the despot very well.

“The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves; whether they are to have any property they can call their own; whether their Houses, and Farms, are to be pillaged and destroyed, and they consigned to a State of Wretchedness from which no human efforts will probably deliver them. The fate of unborn Millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this army – Our cruel and unrelenting Enemy leaves us no choice but a brave resistance, or the most abject submission; that is all we can expect – We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die.” — George Washington to his troops before the Battle of Long Island.

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” — Declaration of Independence

“The greatest danger to American freedom is a government that ignores the Constitution.” Thomas Jefferson

“The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed and that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of press.” And
“Tyranny thrives where gov’t need not fear the wrath of an armed populace” Thomas Jefferson

“We, the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow men who pervert the Constitution.” Abraham Lincoln

“If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no recourse left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, and which against the usurpations of the national rulers may be exerted with infinitely better prospect of success than against those of the rulers of an individual State…” Alexander Hamilton

“… Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?” Patrick Henry

“The prohibition is general. No clause in the constitution could by any rule of construction be conceived to give congress a power to disarm the people. Such a flagitious attempt could only be made under some general pretence by a state legislature. But if in any blind pursuit of inordinate power, either should attempt it, this amendment may be appealed to as a restraint on both”. Rawle

      {notice that he said that to disarm us they would have to pretend like they have a reason since it is our natural right to be able to defend ourselves from whatever threatens us, even those within our own government and that if they pretend that they do we are to use our weapons to change their minds.}

“The importance of this article will scarcely be doubted by any persons, who have duly reflected upon the subject. The militia is the natural defence of a free country against sudden foreign invasions, domestic insurrections, and domestic usurpations of power by rulers… The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.’” Story

      {If you are not aware of who the militaia is, they are every able-bodied person between the ages of 18 – 45.}

“As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people duly before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow-citizens, the people are confirmed by the next article in their right to keep and bear their private arms.” Tench Coxe

Excellent article Frank. Like you, my background is “fightin’ fundie”. I attended an extremist college in the south and was a member of a “self-defense” group that was EXACTLY like the groups of today. Totally paranoid, but “luvin’ Jesus”. And that was back in the “calm” days of Nixon and the Vietnam War! There has been a serious mistrust of government since Ike or maybe even forever. Yes, governments have historically been rather brutal – against their own people, and against nations that “needed regime change”. The only change that is needed is for people to turn to the “God within” for guidance, and stop listening to the swarms of gods all around speaking anything but words of wisdom. As always, it is a spiritual battle. I long for the day when the war clouds are gone and there is peace in the land – all land, everywhere. But that won’t happen until the paranoid, controlling Tea Party, and their equivalents around the world turn to light and love and happily melt their swords into farm equipment, or solar panels, or jewelry, as Cory Booker says! Peace, light and love to you brother!

    • Yippee K

So the fact that you never really understood Scripture as a “fightin fundie” justifies your ignorance as a “limpy lefty” now? Here’s a case in point, your admission that “yes, governments have historically been rather brutal”. You have no grasp of reality, friend.

First of all, government starts with self-government. Think on that for a while. Secondly, in every single case where society has abdicated the responsibility for moral self-government to centralized governmental institutions that do not govern by God’s set of governing principles–every single case in history– brutal tyranny and mass injustice have been the result. Investigate that claim. Research it. Scrutinize it. I don’t care. I’ve done all that work already and I’m fully satisfied that the road America is on will lead to increasing tyranny. If you can’t see the oppressiveness already of what we have now then you are the frog in the boiling water who won’t know he’s cooked till his meat falls off his bones. That oppressive coerciveness that now forces us to accept immoral decisions by our federal governmental institutions will become much much worse. Read your history. If nothing else read Solzhenitsyn.

Remember him, Frank? Please write us an article about how Solzhenitsyn was wrong (and why you were wrong that the lefties heads were on fire at the time). Come on, buddy. Let’s hear it. What about true truth, Frank? You know, the kind that doesn’t change just because your daddy’s dead now?

      • http://carlwk3c.wordpress.com Carl Stevenson

From one who made the mistake of forgetting the past:

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.” — Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

It both amuses and saddens me that folks who think ‘gun restrictions’ are a gross invasion of privacy and a reason to declare war against the government, are the same folks who staunchly support mandatory invasion of a woman’s most private areas, if she dares to seek a LEGAL MEDICAL PROCEDURE know as first trimester abortion……………the hypocrisy is palpable. And insufferable.

    • Jesse Schiff

Kathie what is more hypocritical than a person who was born arguing for abortion?

      • smrnda

Would it be hypocritical for a person who was born, and produced through sexual intercourse to not argue against celibacy? I mean, if my parents had been celibate, I wouldn’t be here – therefore, celibacy is bad. Should I go out demanding that people have sex for this reason?

LOL! Did you happen to read the article first? Delusional racism wrapped in the God brand. Lovely…

    • Dad

First trimester? Why not during birth? Are you suggesting that abortion is not perfectly OK anytime, and for any reason? If abortion is legal, and consistent, it can have no moralistic restrictions. Sure it’s easier at certain stages of the pregnancy, but it is legal throughout the gestation until complete birth.

      • MCruise

I don’t think that it is legal throughout gestation until complete birth. I believe most, if not all states, have bans on late-term abortions.

    • Federalist45

      Kathie:

Here is the underlying reality of abortion–it takes a human life. You cannot escape it. So, what you appear to believe is a woman’s right to “seek a medical procedure” is oh so much more than that. It may be a medical procedure to you, or the woman. It is an execution to the baby. It is the ULTIMATE deprivation of liberty. Your “right” to an abortion results in the absolute destruction of the baby and her right to life.

In fact, the woman’s right in this regard–her liberty–is in choosing to engage in sexual intercourse. She has every right to make that choice. If she makes the choice to have sexual intercourse, and as a result she gets pregnant, she has NO RIGHT to kill the baby she bears.

This is so simple, so consistent with fundamental human conscience, and so rational and reasonable, yet so many insist upon denying it. I will never understand how one can think, honestly, that taking someone else’s life for one’s own convenience is within her rights.

Looks like the virulent left is doing as it always does: Working itself into enough of a frenzy that they can initiate another one of their pogroms, and eliminate with violent genocide, a portion of the population they don’t care for. This seems to be a recurring theme in history, the left killing many millions, and it certainly can happen in America.

See y’all at the Gulag…. if we live long enough to even make it there.

(oh look, one of those horrible ‘southern’ expressions! I must be an extremist!)

    • smrnda

Could you give me a good reason why I, a person who is not Christian and not heterosexual should not look at the southern gun owners as a potential threat to my life? You people declare the whole ‘us versus them’ all the time, and can’t tell the difference between say, passing a law requiring employers to offer health care to full time employees with putting people in gulags.

      • Veritas

Given your point of view I think you’d realize that wherever you exist you are in dire peril. Do love your analogies, they describe a person struggling with the concept of reason and failing at a very fundamental level.

Speaking for myself, I just want you to leave me alone. But you won’t. You think you are entitled to a piece of my property, my earnings, my LIFE, even though you aren’t. After each majority-rule theft of my liberties you are back the next day, demanding more. It is you who assault us, actively, daily. Do you expect us to just sit back and take it, forever?

You, sir, have hit the nail on the head. These leftists have discovered that it’s easier to steal from us than to work for themselves.

and you have just made the original author’s points to a perfect tee.

        • http://poit.com TrakMax

This is the most accurate comment here. Keep taking from the producers and giving to the lazy and unproductive in the name of “fairness”. With every incremental gain (theft), the left comes back demanding more. You can pretend and generalize all that you want but in the end, there is only so much the productive in this country will allow to be taken from them. It’s not a Southern White thing, it’s an everywhere thing. The real division is between those who demand more while contributing nothing and those who have to work to pay them.

We live in dangerous times but the fear is not with those who know what it means to earn a living. The fear lies with those who leech off the productive under color of law, and who have suddenly realized that the same law-abiding people they are taking from are the most armed civilian segment in the entire world.

      • bystrom

smrnda, why just include southerners, I’m a Yorker. Lady we are everywhere…. probably someone from your neighborhood. The time for choosing is now. Do you stand for the constitution or not?

          Oh…how quaint…more veiled threats.

          • Tomas

Making murder legal doesn’t make it right. What we have is a moral right to is self defense of our choosing. Ironically you want to exercise your legal right to kill a fetus, while you simultaneously discard my right to arm myself in defense of myself, my family and my country. Hmm. Are your rights more valid than mine? If so, what changed that you and your ilk now get to cherry pick the rights we get to exercise?

      • Zafarnama

smrnda, your dissonance almost exceeds the hysteria of Shchaeffer. Really, as a gay, non-christian, you live in fear of gun-totin’ Southerners? Are they massing troops and equipment at the gates of your city this very minute? Ever thought of buying a firearm? Diane Feinsten swears by concealed carry…
It’s strange how you Marxists decry the All The Kings Men when they bust your “chronic” dispensaries, bust your hippy heads when you take over a city center for a group whinge about “teh Wun Percent!!”, and yet you trust the same gang of thugs to manage with the most intimate details of your medical history (and not to misuse it), and you are positively salivating over the thought that these same FedGov thugs could be set upon those Mean Cray-Cray Southerners, or as I know them, ordinary responsible salt-of-the-earth Americans with jobs, families and a quaint belief in the rule of law as set down by the Constitution of the United States Of America
BTW it is my deeply held conviction that if anyone other than a Black Marxist were in the Whitehouse, the TSA grope-athon and the Drone Wars would be protested aggressively ad nauseum possibly until they ground to a halt. But as it’s YOUR boy in there? Play on!
Lastly, history shows that the only difference between useful idiots such as Schaeffer and those he demonizes as The Other, is that he may get to wear a uniform and an arm-band until he too is fed to the hogs.

Oh, now… THAT is a distortion of the truth, if I ever heard one. The “law” that you cite, which is ILLEGAL, because it is UN-Constitutional, requires ALL People to go out and BUY a PRODUCT! NOT the same as making employers offer health insurance! What about people like me? I DO NOT believe in, or use, mainstream medical services. They are a lie, and a scam. Prescription drugs do not CURE anything, and neither do doctors. Managing symptoms is not healing. It is a lie. I REFUSE to use such services, and I REFUSE to buy insurance for such services.

As for you….. so you are homosexual. Good for you. So what? I could care less what you do in the PRIVACY OF YOUR OWN HOME. Just don’t flaunt it in public, where I have to see it. I do not share my sex life between my wife and I and do not want others doing it, where children can see it. They will all be exposed to it soon enough.

I AM a southern gun owner. I live in the woods. I mind my own business. Most people like me simply want the government to LEAVE US ALONE, and let us live our lives, free of government interference. I have NO plans to attack the government, or anyone else. I was born free, and I shall die free. If they seek to enslave me, they will get a hell of a surprise.
I will NOT buy health insurance. I will NOT give up my guns. I will NOT allow anyone to FORCE me to do anything. If they try, I will die fighting them….. and take as many with me as I can. THAT you can bet on.

      • http://yahoo.com Moldamire

That would be because as a “Southern gun owner”, I couldn’t care less if you are Christian or heterosexual.

      • WuzYoungOnceToo

        - “Could you give me a good reason why I, a person who is not Christian and not heterosexual should not look at the southern gun owners as a potential threat to my life?”

Has there been a rash of southern gun owners roving the country shooting non-Christian, non-heterosexuals? How many of the 500+ murders in Chicago (or at even higher rates in Detroit, D.C., etc) last year were committed by white, Christian southerners?

      • McLovin

Can’t speak for the evil Southern Gun Nuts (uh, owners) but us Pillaging Rebel Midwestern Gun Nuts (darn, did it again, OWNERS) could really give a rat’s behind about who or what you worship or who (or what) you sleep with or bugger (as long as its not a human minor – gotta’ draw the line there). I suspect our Southern Gun Owning brethren feels much the same way and only wants the Northeastern Progressive Control Freaks to stay out of our shorts and leave us the heck alone.

    • MCruise

What history books were you exposed to?

    • Ben Raines

Basically people in the South will have to go to re education camps if the authors dreams come to fruition. If you can’t be re-educated…Previous governments used democide throughout history to solve the problem.

      • Brian

Re-education???? That would presume they’re educated in the first place, and if they were they wouldn’t believe every boogeyman story they read in a supremacist blog.

        • Chuck

Ah, yes…the old tried and true…mock, belittle, vilify. It’s easier to murder those you think of as less than human. Demonization of a group is a necessity for the consolidation of power for tyrants.

There’s a reason why the liberty-minded chose the Gadsden Flag: rattlesnakes, though dangerous if provoked, are harmless if left alone. So, leave us alone.

As for how educated we are, one only need peruse the comments at various blogs and news outlets to see that those which are well-reasoned and argued are most certainly not coming from those of the leftward persuasion. Typically, the progressive commenter will rapidly devolve into hysterics, emotion, invective and insult when his/her limited command of the facts is exhausted.

Oh, and this Southern, white, male, Christian gun owner holds an M.A. from Georgetown University. So, I hate to disappoint you cupcake, but not only can we out-shoot you, we can out-think you.

  • alma

Mr Schaeffer, Rev or whatever–You have consumed way too much progressive koolaid. And you reveal yourself to be seriously ignorant of the history of the 20th century and the rise/fall of dictatorships. Before any revolution or coup, the tyrants and their followers disarmed the people. The Obamination operates the same way. And, Obama despises Christians. Take our right to own firearms and only criminals will have them–and use them. You liberals are blind to reality.

    • Rick

Wow Alma, talk about “blind to reality”! You are a textbook case of it. I know in your little wingnut world that Obama is a socialist/Islamist/Nazi/Marxist Kenyan who is the anti-Christ and wants to take over the world but sane people know it isn’t so. Oh and nobody is taking away your precious firearms. Obama is just proposing some sensible gun regulations.
What you need to do is turn off Fox News and stop listening to talk radio. It has rotted your brain.

      • Bill Harzia

A “sensible gun regulation” to a tyrant consists of three words: “Hand them over.”

      • http://yahoo.com Moldamire

Anytime that someone uses the term “wingnut” you know where that’s coming from. The far far far left.

      • http://yahoo.com Moldamire

How ironic that you describe Obama in socialist/Islamist/Nazi/Marxist/ Kenyan derogatory terms.
        Hmmmm?

      • Anti-Federalist

        >Oh and nobody is taking away your precious firearms.

Funny, Feinstein’s bill does exactly that. Firearms have to be turned over to the government after the death of the owner and cannot be bequeathed to heirs. Feinstein has gone on the record in the past saying if it were politically possible, confiscation would be her preferred resolution to the tricky problem of private firearms ownership.

      • McLovin

Ja, mein Freund, ve vish only SENSIBLE rrregulations on ze firearms. Ihre papieren, bitte!

    • MCruise

Oh yes, Mr. Schaeffer…the conservatives want you to abandon the teachings of Christ in favor of their flavor of faux Christianity. I say stand your ground. Enough of us have your back.

  • Suzy

Mr. Schaeffer, I wouldn’t think it would be necessary, given your image and chosen avocation, but remember that one of the Ten Commandments is “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” You have maligned and defamed many of your brothers and sisters in Christ. I won’t try to guess your motives, but this article is beyond despicable.

People advocating for the rule of law and demanding that our politicians respect the Constitution that they have promised to defend are not extremists. Perhaps you need to take the chip off of your shoulder, drop your contempt, and get out of Massachusetts for a bit. You’ll feel much, much better.

    • Rick

Oh look, another nutter. Hey Suzy, look at my comments above to Alma. They apply to you as well.

      • Diane

Poor Rick, thinking Suzy is a “nutter,” whatever the hell that is. Would you please point out to me what in Suzy’s post qualifies her as a “nutter?” She asks for respect for fellow Christians and for those who revere the Constitution of the United States. Has that position really become that extreme? Perhaps it has in the minds of the generality of leftists, but beware, Rick, most Americans share Suzy’s mindset. Isn’t that so scary? Leftists: afraid of any ideas that are not theirs.

        • MCruise

Well, for starters, her complete denial of the constant violent rhetoric and threats that seep out of the pores of every single conservative page or site out there.

          • Suzy

Just a wee bit of hyperbole to start the morning, M? Not agreeing with this author is “complete denial of the constant violent rhetoric and threats that seep out of the pores of every single conservative page or site out there.”? Really?

            Too funny.

          • Us vs. Us

…what about the bombs dropping from the sky around the world, controlled by the US and authorized by our President?

I guess unless it’s “rhetoric” or “threats” that you don’t really care. When it gets real, you wave the flag.

And for the record? I voted for President Obama the first time, hoping that we would actually change our ways. We certainly did. We ramped it all up.

          • http://yahoo.com Moldamire

            Like?

        • MCruise

And most Americans most certainly do not share Suzy’s mindset or Mitt Romney would be in the White House and the Congress would be controlled by the GOP. Back in your bubble you go!

          • Suzy

Sad, but possibly true. Of course, that has nothing to do with my comments or whether or not a nation of mostly low-information voters is a good thing.

          • Tomas

I’ve thought about this “most Americans choosing” this or that political whore and I’ve come to conclude that most Americans didn’t vote this time around, or any other election, for that matter. Heck, only about 25% of eligible voters cast a ballot for Obama this time around. The majority voted “none of the above”, but their vote of non compliance to a corrupt system was ignored. This majority wants govt to leave us alone. Stop serving only itself and its cheerleaders. Stop infringing on our rights, stop spending money we don’t have, stop fighting wars with everyone govt doesn’t agree with this week. You talk of implied threats when the people you support actually carry out violence against their enemies. Your champions decide my kids need to be groped to,fly. Your champions decide they need a law on the books to indefinitely detain Americans without due process. Your champions decide people are going to set aside their morals and pay for things against their conscience. And you have the nerve to call us nutters? Do principled people scare you? We the principled have decided to no longer support close enough. You should cheer your good fortune as that means you can reelect all the fascists you desire in the future.

      • Suzy

Oooh, Ricky, you get challenged and you really turn ugly. Can’t handle it, huh? Watch out, you are revealing who you really are.

      • Darryl B. Lawton

Wow, Rick. Label anyone who does not think as you do, huh? You gonna pull the race card when you run out of arguments? After all, your savior in D.C. is half black….. and everyone knows that us southerners hate black folks. Pinhead.

    • JonBlade

Um, you DO know that there’s more than one commandment? Hmmmm, what should one be?….oh, I don’t know…”Thou Shalt Not Kill”? Juuuuust checking, Cletus.

  • Roger

What does Loughner, Holmes, and Nidal Hasan all have in common? They are Obama supporters, aka hypocritical liberals. How about the zombie video game released by liberals involving shooting Palin, McCain, Bush, Cheney and other conservatives? Or how about the one shooting NRA members? For as much as you bleeding heart liberals preach about love, peace, and non-violence you sure like to gain financially and politically by killing people in real life and in video games. While you are all your soap box preaching hypocritical propaganda patriots, TRUE patriots, especially those who have made an oath to defend our born given rights and freedoms can see the tyranny. NDAA (established by Bushed and magnified by Obama), unconstitutional detention of US citizens, felony charges for protesting, etc are all steps towards tyranny.

    • Rick

Wow the trolls are all out in force today! Hey Roger how do you know Loughner, Holmes and Hasan were liberal Obama supporters? I never heard any such thing. I guess you just pulled that “fact” out of your butt huh? Have you ever noticed that many of the mass killings in this country were done by right-wingers? Timothy McVeigh ring a bell? How about the guy that murdered all those people in the Unitarian Church in Tennessee because they were “liberals.” Oh and don’t forget the guy that killed Dr Tiller the abortion doctor in Kansas. He was gunned down in church by a right-wing zealot.

      • Bill Harzia

Rick, please don’t make the mistake of thinking that you will not wind up dead or in jail at the hands of this administration, just because you supported them. It’s an oligarchy, where the price of admission is more than you and I will earn in a lifetime, combined. They hate both of us.

        See you in the camps.

Pssst…someone recently shot 20 young children to death in an elementary school and that someone and his mother were conservative, conspiracy-minded gun nuts.

      • Ben Raines

Pssst, that certain someone that shot all those kids was an Occupy extremist…So sad that Obama and the left support the Occupy movement.

We are spending my kids future into total destruction and you blame it on people that think the world is going to end? What bubble do you live in? Do you even know what it is to be an American? American Culture? Anything?

Oy – You use information from The Southern Poverty Law Center and question other’s credibility on the topic? Do you believe the headlines on Weekly World News in the grocery check out lone too? Both have equal credibility.

Ans this: “These people are literally ill with fear. And their world is turning lopsided. There is a black man in the White House and he’s winning, and worst of all he’s self-evidently smarter than they are. He’s not even angry!” –

In order: NO. As this country becomes more and more apostate it becomes more and more lopsided – this is true whether of not you recognize it or not. Yes, but I don’t call any form of the politics of personal destruction “winning” but you are the writer. Self-evidently smarter? Not really – but perhaps you are seduced by his narcissism – project much? And if you honestly believe Obama is NOT angry please go read a transcript of his recent inaugural address and revise your opinion? I took offense at the speech and will respond by continuing to cling to my guns and my religion – and my three advanced degrees and 1500 book personal library. It isn’t that you don’t know anything, it is merely that you know so many things that are simply wrong.

No, let’s make a utopia like Jacksonville, FL or anywhere in South Carolina. By the way, when are conservative red states going to start supporting themselves without the need for subsidies from other states (namely, blue states)? The “theory of nullification”… Theory??

Judge Napolitano is an actual Constitutional scholar..unlike the traitorous impostor in the White house…

And you can deny the Mass Murdering policies of this administration (and it’s predecessors) all you like, but to your own detriment…but I am apparently “ill with fear”.

You can try to ignore the wholesale destruction of our economy..until “austerity” comes to town…riding high on the IMF and the central banks of the World.

$5 million dollar vacations? $100 million for an inaugural Event? Your associate Al Roker literally fawning and clasping their hands like little girls at the sight of the Holy One…Chris Matthews getting a hard on just talking about it (Listen to the transcript about the feeling crawling up his leg..perhaps he was masturbating under the desk)

This cult of personality bullshit is blinding to the truth…and as a good upstanding Christian, aren’t you supposed to be seeking truth?

You can say what you want, but 10 minutes of Melissa Harris Perry on MSNBC could convince a reasonable person that this is No Country for White Men. I am amused by the rants of the progressives celebrating the demise of the power of white men. On the other hand, you are starting to get a clearer picture of the future. Your call for the mainstream media to talk about race and Southern white men who can’t get along with the program, will only hasten the day when this thing turns hot. I would suggest that you tread lightly, in a rhetorical sense. Those you demonize are listening, hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

  • Jackson

Nullification has been widely practiced by liberals in the blue states for a decade or more. First there were the medical marijuana laws, which clearly nullify Federal drug laws. In 2012 the ante was upped with outright legalization in Washington and Colorado.

Many Blue State big cities have nullified immigration laws with “sanctuary city” laws and policies.

And of course the Obama administration has nullfied laws with executive orders and polcies, such as the decision not to enforce laws they don’t like, notably “the Defense of Marraige Act”

All of this has set the stage for the Tea Party to merely follow suit in the red states. Make Boise a “sanctuary city” for high capacity magazines, nullify gun control laws, etc.

Good for the goose, good for the gander.

    • mandm

DOMA is a religious belief and has no place in gov’t policy. It falls more in line with civil liberties. It is discrimatory and has no place in this day and age. The act doesn’t take away from YOUR freedom to believe in just hetero marriage does it? Why do you deny others the right to marry and wouldn’t you be crossing the line of religious freedom by wanting others who don’t believe as you to not marry? Freedom applies to everyone, not just for those who live in a homophobic bubble. It seems a lot of republicans are against something until that something becomes personal…then they change their tune.

  • Jeff C

You’re perfectly welcome to your freedom of speech, so all the radicals you’re referring to have no issues with that whatsoever. I guess the issues are that 1) we’re not all evangelical Christians 2) we’re not all white 3) we’re not all any specific thing. The NRA is one of many organizations that support and lobby for us in Washington D.C. and at the state level. It is on the way to 5 million members. That’s hardly a small enclave of rabid white supremacists. I have voted Republican. I have voted Democrat. I have voted Independent. Also, please understand that if gun rights were the only problem, this might be taking a cooler tone. People out in middle America.. a lot of us.. believe that our Constitutional rights are being tossed out the window with things like the “Affordable Care Act” and NDAA. This is the first time I have read anything on this site, so I am not sure if it’s opinion-based or of this passes for journalism. If this is journalism, it seems you are painting a whole lot of people with an awfully broad brush.

    • MCruise

The nation has over 300 million adults. 5 million does not impress and will not dictate national policy to the other 295 million rational adults. You have yourself a real nice day, ya hear?

      • George Perry

The country has a lot less than 300 million adults, since our total population is only 315 million.
If 5 million people go to the trouble and expense of joining any kind of organization it’s pretty significant. How many people are financial supporters of Planned Parenthood? I mean voluntarily.
I’m not an NRA member and don’t plan to join, by the way.
For the life of me, I can’t see how my owning or not owning any kind of individual weapon I want is anyone’s business, why I have to be treated like a convict to fly anywhere, why it’s anyone’s business whether or not I wear a seat belt when I drive, or what the justification is for 50 years of undeclared wars, what purpose sex ed is supposed to serve (other than forcing me to pay for the promotion of degeneracy), and on and on it goes.

We’re not the problem, we’re the cure.

        • m and m

The gov’t has the authority to provide overall general security for the country as a whole. Of course, it will not make everyone happy. Sex ed allows young people to understand repercussions of sex like pregnancy and STDs. Why is it a bad thing that the learn how their bodies work? It may even scare them enough not to engage in sex at that time and that is a good thing. It doesn’t promote sex, but most teens are going to experiment, that is the reality of it, so I would think you would prefer they be protected right?

  • jimbo

WOW! Frank, what a bunch of baloney, you keep spouting racism and southern whites, and evangelical whites, as if they are a lower caste. This kind of speech (while protected by that constitution you abhore) is inflammatory, and is no better than the stuff the real racists (democrats ) from the south were spouting in the sixties. Funny that you have made yourself an expert on the thoughts and intention of this class of people.

  • http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/ MolonLabe

How many patriots are you willing to kill to get the guns?
How many people on your side are you willing to see die to get the guns?

Perhaps you need to consider those two points before you try to usurp our natural rights.

You can’t have the guns, you can’t have a registration of the guns, and if you think the law enforcement officers are willing to die to go after the guns, you need to do some google-fu, and look into the reality of that situation.

High time you totalitarians had some skin in the game. If you want our modern sporting rifles with standard capacity magazines, and if you want our long-arms registered, you’ll have to come do it yourselves.

After all… the Cops and the Sheriff’s deputies all live amongst us. As has been so aptly illustrated in Mexico… 2:30 am no-knock raids cut both ways. The law enforcement officers won’t lift a finger to enforce this nonsense outside of hellpits like NYC and SF. They love their kids and their wives, and like to not come home to burning cinders where their home used to be.

So man up. You want the weapons, come and get them – this time there won’t be any soliders and cops dying for you.

You’ll have to do it yourselves.

    Good luck.

    • Zafarnama

      THIS.

    • MCruise

More threats? Why is it that people like you are always delivering the threats but sitting back waiting for someone else to lead the way? Feel jumpy…make your move. You don’t’ have the numbers, I assure you.

      • http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/ MolonLabe

Don’t mistake “tactical restraint” and “battle-space preparation” for “cowardice” or an unwillingness to act, “friend.”

We the people just finished buying 4.8 million firearms in less than 60 days, a six year stockpile of standard capacity magazines, and over 3 billion cartridges.

Do you think we bought them to register them and/or turn them in?

        This is not panic buying.

This is a people preparing for war.

You need to understand a thing or two about logistics son. Sherman didn’t march through the south on a moment’s notice. A campaign takes a good amount of time and resources – but thanks to the overreaches of statists and wannabe-tyrants, the time-table just got put into overdrive.

Takes 3% of the gun owners in this nation to topple it. The federal government does not stand a chance.

        How do I know this?

Go dig five holes 4 foot deep in your backyard. I’ll be startled if you don’t damage some kinda utility line in the process. You pick a fight with the freedom lovers in America, and you had better get used to not having electricity, internet, natural gas, running water, and working toilets.

        The infrastructure is utterly indefensible.

The patriots in America don’t need to beat the army. They don’t need to beat the Federal goon-squads. They don’t even need to the local law enforcement.

All they need to do it shut off the lights on a dilapidated, over-extended, and so vulnerable as to be indefensible power/water/gas grid, and the “free-sh*t-army” will take care of the rest.

The guns are for what comes afterwards. The coming revolution will be fought with shovels, pick-axes, bolt cutters, and bags of cement. The “arms” dealer will be Home Depot. You’ll learn one way or another this society continues and exists peaceably only with our consent. The second we withdraw that, it will, with a considerable amount of assistance, fall into ruin.

      • JonBlade

And if you had the numbers it wouldn’t matter. You can’t count.

      • m and m

@Mcruise…I’m afraid you won’t get anywhere with people who look at society from a one-sided stand. Gov’t is bad always and forever. Critical thinking and rational thought are not needed (They call that indoctrination for some reason). They prefer authoritive figures to lead their thinking. Their thought process is rooted in the part of the brain that controls our fear. The NRA is pushing a lot of disingenious fearful propaganda for an even bigger profit from their followers.

With the exception of the extreme fringes in all parties, (who really don’t represent anyone but themselves, and are embarrassing to the vast majority of those parties) most people just want to live in peace, prosperity and security. We just want our basic rights, including democratic elections. We elect our leaders in this country, as we will for the next elections as we have in the past. Obama won. He had 8% more of the popular vote than his opponent. That is far more than enough. We can only be certain that his successor will win by either a larger or smaller margin. Life goes on. Deal with it.

Vulnerable people (whether they really are, or just imagine they are) want guns to protect themselves. Unless they are criminals, or insane, in which case we wish they would not have guns (but can hardly stop them from getting them), the constitutional right will remain, with a few minor restrictions. Politicians and judges will argue over the details since this is a complex issue, and the constitution has some weight in the matter. Plenty of non-white, non-Christian, non-southerner, non-conservatives want to own guns, too, by the way.

As far as the 2nd amendment right to bear arms and the intentions of the founding fathers, it seems a “litmus test” for military leaders of whether or not they would obey an order to fire on U.S. citizens is worth considering. (I’m stirring the pot, but not ‘calling the kettle black; by provoking anger, fear, or disrespect, I hope.)

Once again, I wish for respectful and meaningful dialogue, and hope I have not seemed to attack any individual personally. If I have, I apologize, and ask your forgiveness.

    • http://carlwk3c.wordpress.com Carl Stevenson

Yes, there are reports that Obama is applying just such a litmus test … And purging officers who indicate they would NOT fire on US citizens who refuse to comply with confiscation.

      • James T.

I always love that “there are reports” bullshit…right up there with Fixed News saying “some would say”…..meaning them. There are reports that you French-kiss your sister while your blue-tick coon dog licks your testicles. Does that make them true?

  • Isome

Clearly the right wing nutters commenting on this felt the sting of truth. The anger & projection in their posts is obvious, though very common for the bitter clingers.

    • Ace

OMG! That describes me to a “T.” How did you KNOW?

    • http://carlwk3c.wordpress.com Carl Stevenson

I’m not bitter, but I’m a clinger. And proud of it.
What we resent is the lies and slander from the left, coupled with their sanctimonious assertion that they have the right to take away our rights.

Here’s an idea … If nobody wants a ‘civil disturbance,’ why in the hell don’t they quit disturbing us?

      • Andrew

You don’t consider killing a couple dozen children a “civil disturbance”? Tells me all I need to know about your rationality on guns, or anything else.

  • motorfingaz

Wicked demonic forces have taken complete control for conservative ideology in America.

    • Rob Crawford

Thanks for a hilarious read, you’re officially clueless.

  • Chris

You sir are a bafoon, and are as intolerant and racist as the people you speak of.

  • Michael Lamb

In this article and thread you the basis for Lincoln’s War 150 years ago. There are two distinct groups of people here dynamically opposed to each other. One claims to believe in the authority of man to determine his way in life while the other believes in eternal or universal truths which are known as Inalienable Rights to determine their way. Oddly the group that follows man’s humanistic ways are also claiming God fearing people who are doing God’s works.

For simplicity sake I will call those two groups good and evil. These people should have never been forced to live together under one nation, which is why you ended up with Lincoln’s War. Any excuse and pretext can be used for that war that you prefer, and the same applies for the differences today for the same groups of people still opposes each other. Gun control being just ONE difference. It would have been so much easier on everyone had the one group allowed the other to peacefully leave, but greed and man’s righteousness doesn’t work that way. Such people must have everything and are never satisfied until they gain everything. yet they commit their terrible acts under God’s name and claim their actions for Him in vain.

So it is written in that at judgement day these people will claim before Christ their good works, and all the killing and conquests they have made in God’s and ask for His admittance into Heaven, and Christ shall say leave me as I never knew you.

Now as 150 years ago it is the wisest thing to let each side separate in peace and go their own ways for each group cannot tolerate the other. I for one don’t claim the Marxists here as my countrymen, nor would I fight for them or do anything in their name under one country. Many others feel the same as I.

When a group of people no longer accepts the Universal Truths, the Inalienable Rights of man, they have also rejected God Himself for it was God that gave us those things which also became the morality of man as well as granting him self-determination.

The right to bear arms is ONLY ONE Inalienable Right of man. It is simply the right of man to defend himself by any means possible. You cannot limit a man’s right to defend himself based on a collective thought and vote as Inalienable Rights supersedes man’s laws. Sticks, stones, hammers, bows and arrows, the choices are endless. (Sorry nuclear weapons don’t count as that is not a personal weapon or tool.) And if a group opposes one Inalienable Right they surly oppose many more. Care to start naming them? Basically it is all of them because Marxists does not believe Inalienable Rights comes form God. Actually Marxists don’t believe in God either but they use His name in helping attain their goals. Schaeffer and the rest his followers here are no different! But they do follow the Marxist tenet of a democratic vote and “Civil Rights” which replaces your Inalienable Rights given to us by God. This Marxist tenet is simply a practice and form of humanism. (Civil Rights are rights granted by society which replaces Inalienable Rights, and for every Civil Right enacted an Inalienable Right is negatively affected.)

I suggest to the Marxists on this blog, that you peacefully allow separation of the two groups. Fore if you don’t the other group is ready and willing to oppose you tot he death in the continuation of Lincoln’s War. They will not give any more to your Satanic demands, nor will I. If you don’t like the names I designated you, which are truthful, then that is even more reason to separate so you can call yourselves whatever you desire and live your own lives without interference from those you despise. It would then become YOUR business what you do and say because you would be a separate country, not having to tolerate trying to resolve irreconcilable differences between two groups that were never meant to agree on much of anything. To dent such a separation is to only prove your greediness and humanistic denial of God.

This is rich, coming from the products of Huddled Masses and Wretched Refuse that washed up here a century or so ago, empty pockets, hands out, begging for entry.

I’m reminded of the French knights in Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail, “But what are you doing in England? ” “Mind your own business you sill English kin-igg-its!”

So to the sick and demented minds of the multicult (i.e., Obamatons), the United States (you’re not “America” no matter how many times you repeat the lie – America is a blood ethnicity from 1776), the United States is merely a Labor Union that you join and exploit for goodies. Fuck the ones that pay for it all. And don’t forget: the immigrant spawn are spending to accumulated capital of 500 years’ investment in the land of America. History did not begin in 1912 when grandpap’s steamer blew in to New York harbor.

    Dear Sir:

You have become a traitor to everything you late father represented. I am happy I do not have to bear the shame that you most surely do. Add to that the burden of your hatred towards me and my people, our culture, and our struggle to remain free from the chains of the superstate and the burden of your dishonor becomes difficult to imagine.

You, sir, have my deepest and most sincere pity, and I will pray that someday you will open your eyes to the light of God and return to being the man that once so valiantly championed the traditional values of the Christian West.

May God have mercy on you.

He cant, that’s what evil demonic possession is all about. the dark evil abyss has been opened and every unclean fowl bird and spirit are entering into people such as this, these are murderers and evil doers, and God will bring a sword against them shortly, he is letting them have their fling right now, but the sword is going to fall on all of them. and their rotting bodies will lie in the streets for the birds to prey on. that is what is waiting them.

Yes, he’s apparently one of the moral busybodies that CS Lewis referred to:

“Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good
of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live
under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.
The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may
at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good
will torment us without end for they do so with the approval
      of their own conscience.”

Oh, and Frank – we’re not preparing to defend America from America . . . we’re preparing to defend America from that corporation back in DC, you know, the one that incorporated itself in 1871 after destroying half the country. Yeah, that one. The corporation that went bankrupt in 1933 and turned over all its “assets” to the Federal Reserve as collateral on its debt – including, though it had no authority to do so, every last man, woman and child.

Yeah, that corporation. That’s not, and never was, America.

The usual irrational ranting and raving from Frank. I don’t know about these fictional extremist paranoiacs Franky fears so deeply but I personally am preparing for defending my life and limb from the encroachment of wild pigs. Did you know that the wild pig population in America is growing at a rate much higher than the human one and that there are ten times as many wild pigs today than there were five years ago? I’m quite positive Frank couldn’t kill a mouse with his bare hands let alone a wild boar but hey maybe he plans to live in uptight urban settings all his life or get really handy with throwing knives and bows. I prefer the tool we invented for quickly dispatching mammals, the gun. Of course a gun can be used to kill a person, and in scripture there are a very limited number of reasons to kill people (rebelliousness in children being one of them…). But that’s not my intention, nor I dare say the intention of the vast majority of gun owners in America. I would like a good semi-automatic hunting rifle to handle the couple dozen or so increasingly aggressive and dangerous pigs that are now squatting on the back five acres of my property. For now, I use snares and bowie knives (use your imagination). It’s a gory bloody business but it’s certainly better to kill the pigs than to have them destroying my orchards and God-forbid killing my children. And I have personally witnessed what people can be like when they are cut off from the morality that flows from the Creator and give themselves over to animalistic aggression and passion and evil intention. This sort of idiotic brow-beating for an irrational cause is so typical of leftists. Try some reality, people.

Frank’s descent into leftism is becoming increasingly predictable. He’s made the jump to racism. How long before he becomes a raging classist as well?

  • DaveP

Frankly Mr Schaeffer, you’re the one that sounds like a nutjob. Do you even have any white, Christian friends? You should expose your self more to Southern Christian culture. Your comments are hateful and not helpful to the real conversation we should be having in this country about citizens and firearms.

    • Yippee K

Christian culture bores Frank. He thinks he’s had sooo much of it (he thinks he created it all here in America) and he has never understood or appreciated it. He should spend more time in nations under the rule of genocidal Marxists, strong men, warlords and mobs. He should take his wife and daughter with him.

      That might learn him.

You are an idiot. Living in the South I can personally tell you that you have no clue what you’re talking about. I am very proud of my heritage. That does NOT mean I’m racist, nor does it mean that I want war with anyone. You would think someone of your far superior intellect could see thru the lies that you are fed. The SPLC is filled with more hate than any white Southerner could ever be. I don’t have an arsenal of weapons but I do have enough of them to defend myself and my family from anyone that I need to. Go to the inner city if you want to see where real racism exists. Until then, maybe you should do a little research and stop parroting everything you hear on MSNBC.

So the author traded blind faith in religion for blind faith in some windbag in a suit.
Looks like he’s destined to spend his life as a pathetic kool-aid drinker of one type or another. Oh well, freedom is scary and servitude is easy so have fun. Just don’t expect the rest of us to line up and bow at your altar.

Apparently, the author has made up his own god, after choosing his political ideology. Quite backwards, but common these days. Then, he goes on to become a poison to the Christian community, attempting to rot it from within.

It can’t be done, can it?

The current batch of Bubba’s are just the bastard offspring of the Roman seed that has been spreading the globe for 3500 years. They are fun to play with until they start losing. And when they do start losing the blood will flow freely. When they grow weary of Black/Gay/matriarchal/liberal/indigenous peoples, etc…slaughter will follow shortly thereafter. If Obama is lucky he can aspire to be an Amtrak porter in a few decades

    • Bill

you cant compare any Roman to the likes of this evil black Islamic extremist we now have in charge. He is the seed of Satan not of the Roman blood or spirit, I am Roman and do not think like this. the Roman empire got their just reward when the Goths came down from the German North and burned Rome to the ground. God used them as the sword to kill a nation that was doing wickedly daily. Yes, the Roman started out okay , but became vile and filthy with all sorts of sins, and its sin that brings a nation to its knees. We here in the U.S. are on the precipice of the sword and it will fall on us but it will also fall on our leaders and government who have caused a national sin far greater then what Rome has ever done.

    Finding Common Ground

As we begin the New Year 2013, the Nation remains deeply divided on issues such as the National Debt and Gun Control. The Conservatives and Liberals, the Republicans and Democrats, the Right and the Left are caught in stalemates on most every issue. As polarized value systems collide, each side has dug in its heels and refuses to budge. Meanwhile, the National Debt grows and The United States continues to descend into a downwardly mobile cycle. If there is an enemy of the freedom we enjoy in the United States that seeks to divide and conquer, they are well on their way to victory.
The common, middle class citizen in the United States today is witnessing the evaporation of the American dream. Costs of most every necessity are rising as wages, benefits, and job opportunities shrink. Jobs have been shipped overseas while the cost of higher education skyrockets. As all of these problems mount for the working person, the number on Welfare and Government Assistance grows. The working citizen feels alienated from the political process due to the corporate powers that spend millions per week lobbying influence in Washington. How could their voice be heard above that of the dollars that buy the ear of our elected representatives? In fact, the powerful elite of Washington and the Multinational Corporations with all their lobbying dollars seem to be a monolithic power structure that holds its interests above that of the citizens’.
This is where the Liberal and the Conservative need to find common ground on gun control and issues that surround our Second Amendment Rights. What is it that the powerful elite want? Quite simply, they want more power and more money. It sounds extreme, but the powerful elite are aiming to have absolute control. The fear of terrorism led to the passage of the Patriot Act, the National Defense Authorization Act signed by President Obama in 2013 and most recently HR-347, the so-called “anti-protest-trespass” which many feel limits free speech. The NDAA allows for the indefinite detention of Americans denying the due process of law. Executive Orders by President Obama that infringe on any Constitutional Amendment that protects our freedoms should be of grave concern to all Americans, Conservative and Liberal alike. These laws are not so small steps toward absolute control and the only thing that stands in their way is a “well regulated militia”.
The supporters of the Second Amendment have created an image of Right Wing extremists dressed in camouflage fatigues, holed up in a fortified compound surrounded by guns and ammo. This image is rejected by Liberals as a bunch of redneck nut cases. The reason that the Second Amendment supporters are so rattled right now is they are trying to defend the right to be Liberal or Conservative, or to even be able to choose.
If the Second Amendment is steadily eroded over time based on fear, what will be left? America will have the Federal Government, Big Banks, Wall Street, Multinational Corporations and the most sophisticated military on the planet on one side. On the other side will be an unarmed and defenseless civilian population. At this point, with the help of the Patriot Act and NDAA, the full force of the military will be used to hunt down and slaughter the citizens unwilling to give up their arms.
As we progress in this Brave New World, future tragic events may trigger Martial Law to be implemented and gun rights stripped from citizens. Confiscations of guns were carried out by law enforcement following Hurricane Katrina, and could happen again. President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, Diane Feinstein and many others in the current administration have expressed their desire to disarm Americans. All of this coincides with talk of a provision in the Affordable Health Care Act that shall require
every U.S. citizen to receive an implanted radio-frequency(RFID)microchip for tracking medical care. It seems that the ruling elite have figured out they stand to make much more money if America looked more like China. The Second Amendment IS the keystone that holds the other amendments in place. If your right to keep and bear arms is eroded and removed, so will your freedom of speech as protected by the First Amendment. Your right to assemble and to vote will fall shortly after that. Is this the American future we want to hand down to our children?
Second Amendment supporters share the same values as Liberals when it comes to freedom, we fear an overbearing Government that conducts unjust detainment and surveillance, limits our choice of Non-GMO food, administers vaccines that have been linked to Autism and silences voices of dissent. All freedom loving Americans, Liberal and Conservative, need to recognize the threat that exists and help preserve a well regulated militia to ward off tyrants.

    • Tyranny? Really?

“Implanted radio-frequency(RFID)microchip” required by the ACA? Not true. Where is your proof otherwise?

The President consorts with al Qaida? After he took care of Bin Laden when Bush could not? Not true. Where is your proof otherwise?

And Mr. Lawton, when your car is t-boned by a drunk driver, please carry a card with you informing the paramedics that you want to opt out of any and all medical treatment. We, the tax-payers, appreciate your fiscal responsibility.

Well-regulated killing machines are not tyranny. Equitable tax laws are not tyranny. Liberty and justice for ALL is not tyranny.

Evading taxes by hiding money in the Cayman’s is not patriotism. Buying congressional influence with money is not democracy. Money is not speech. Corporations are not people.

The replies to this story simply confirm everything Frank wrote.

  • Jules

As if your bio and political stance stance wasn’t enough to discredit you – the moment you started referencing the SPLC, you lost ALL credibility. You’re just another Zionist shill.

    • http://carlwk3c.wordpress.com Carl Stevenson

Stop with the “Zionist” crap … Don’t judge all Jews by the JINOs. They are tyrant wannabes.
Obama’s patron George Soros was born a Jew. His parents gave him to a non-Jew to protect him from the Holocaust, just before they were hauled off to the camps.
George was about 12 at the time, as I recall.
George willingly went around showing the Nazis where the Jews lived so their property could be stolen and they could be shipped off to the camps.
There are evil people of all heritages, ethnicities, and religions.
Feinstein, for example, is evil, not because of her name or because she pretends to be a Jew, but because of her behavior.
There are plenty of Jews who have no use for the JINOS and their colleagues in crime. See jpfo.org and, specifically http://jpfo.org/images02/handbillpoliticians-large.jpg to see for yourself how many Jews feel about Feinstein and the others who seek to disarm us so they can control us.

  • Zowie!

    “Bastard offspring”. Interesting.

How about people who are generally peaceful and wish to be left alone? How about law-abiding citizens who don’t want to be disarmed, knowing that the criminals won’t allow themselves to be? Pssssst… Criminals don’t care about gun bans. (wink) How about those who wish to go to private schools, and not have political correctness shoved down their throats by federal mandate? What about those of us who are successful, just middle class mind you, who don’t want to be taxed to death to pay for entitlements that are basically payments for votes? Even worse, taxed to death for programs that we believe to be morally objectionable?

No, we just want to be left alone, to choose what charities we support, instead of authoritarians stealing from us and giving themselves the credit, and if we want to fire our mean, and scary looking rifle off of our porch into the wilderness, that we own, behind our house, then we should be able to do that, since we’re not interfering in the rights of others.

It is obvious that many do not trust their own emotional reactions, and presume that, since they cannot be trusted with certain types of weapons, beliefs, and freedoms, that everyone else cannot be either. So, they demonize peaceful, law-abiding people in the hopes that they’ll demoralize or “shame” them into submission.

“Southerners”, “Whites”, “Christians”. How original, this rabid rage at all of the “usual suspects”. I CERTAINLY wouldn’t trust the author with a firearm, nor many of the overemotional authoritarians commenting here. They can’t control their emotions. It’s all personal extremism and the portrayal of those who disagree with them as extreme. That’s all that they know… “extreme”.

People like the author, emotion-driven, bigoted, uninformed, and illogical, will eventually realize that the huge, overbearing, authoritarian government that they helped create and continue to support will eventually turn it’s eye towards that which they cherish as well. It always does. It’s as if they’re allergic to history books.

    • Ben Raines

It is acceptable for the elitist left wingers like the author to racially attack Americans that he has little knowledge of. Fomenting hate against fellow Americans to spread his warped ideology only proves his self proclaimed superiority. Same style of commentary was used by the Nazi’s and various Communist regimes. To them the people are always the problem…Not the government…His government is all knowing and benevolent.

  • Dennis

I’m going to presume that most of the negative responses to this article come from persons who identify as Christian. If so, herein lies a problem so much larger than anyone can get their heads/hearts around: there is a divide so great in the country that I can’t imagine how it can be bridged. I personally like how Frank has stated it, but there seems to be no way to appeal to a common love for Christ that can bring us together in any way, shape or form. And I don’t like what I’m becoming: a knee-jerk hater (I really think so) of right wing folks who seem to have an 11th commandment against intelligent thinking and discussion.

    • vanhelmont

Dennis, you have accurately described the problem. You find nothing in common with Southrons, constitutionalists, and traditionalists. Since they reach different conclusions than you, they must be incapable of “intelligent thinking and discussion.” If you were content to think your Yankee thoughts and leave us to think and act in our own way, with the powers of the States respected by a limited Federal Government, we could coexist peacefully. To me the reasonable solution is red state secession. Then perhaps you could think of us as a strange foreign culture, and we would no longer excite your hatred by impeding your political and social “progress.”

  • Scott Wilson

As a lawful, peaceable gun owner, I am absolutely for harsh penalties for people who criminally misuse firearms.

Enough with letting violent people back out on the streets to harm innocent people. As for rapists, child molesters and murderers, hanging is too good for them. Why is it okay to kill innocent babies but not murderers? Makes no sense unless you’re a confused people without a moral compass.

I do strongly support the Constitution. I am willing to risk my life defending our rights — all of our rights, not just the ones I like.

But that does not make me a bad person. It just makes me an American. My rights are not negotiable. Why are yours?

Racist? Never. Long list of credentials and associations to prove otherwise, including my own family. That’s just a red herring accusation for someone who doesn’t have a better argument.

All in all, there was some truth in this rant of yours, sir. But I had to wade through a good bit of balderdashing obfuscation and haughtily false innuendo to find it.

The ire you are seeing from gun owners is based on the painfully obvious fact that those who wants to disarm this nation are going to have to do so by force — and a great deal of resistance is a foregone conclusion. I am sorry that fact makes you so uncomfortable.

  • Me

You can all go fuck yourselves

  • Milo Mindbender

I am offended by the pure vitriol served in this op-ed. Just because I understand that “assualt weapons” are only the nose of the camel coming into my tent. I am a card carrying libertarian who voted against Barrack Obama twice, not out of rascism, but because he is an economic illiterate, and unable to learn that all good does not come from government interference in open markets. I am a life long gun owner, and a member of the US Military, who is disturbed by the rhetoric about ” Tea Party Rebellions”, and open conflict. I have served in combat zones, and hope never to have to live in another, but do find in confusing that we will let Iraqis keep full auto AK’s, but can not trust our own citizens with the free excersise of their constitutional freedoms. Ted Kennedy’s car has killed more people than all of my private firearms combined, and none of them have ever left my home unaccompaniedor chased anyone down. We have a greater danger from over precription of SSRI class medication, we are losing a whole generation to constant drugging for either parental or school ease of handling.
The second amendment is a sacred obligation, and not to be confused with hunting, or target shooting, but like all obligations not everyone is willing to play in the established rules. US freedom is ensured by possesion of a free, and armed populace, but as we become more urbanized fewer learn from a young age how to enjoy outdoor activities, and where food really comes from. Mass shootings are an abberation not the normal course of things, and in any given year more people die from being beaten to death with hands than die from rifle fire of all types, and assault weapons are a small portion of the total rifles used.
Thank you for bearing with my rant, and I now return you to your regular programing.

“Southern, White Patriot gun owners” represent and extremely small percentile of those who commit violent crime. In fact, the demographic groups indirectly endorsed by this author as protagonists in his treatise (Non-White ex-felons, illegals, etc) commit almost 80% of all violent crime in the US.
Very ironic that Mr Shaeffer would be statistically quite safer living amongst ‘angry, White gun owners’ than if he lived amongst the entitlement crowd he so staunchly defends.

Make no mistake: This writer and others like him will be leaning on the doorbells of the nearest White patriots begging for protection given a state of civil emergency or full-blown insurrection after they dial 911 and nothing happens. The above posters correctly point out that this issue can be condensed down to the Takers vs the Makers. Mr Schaeffer adeptly realizes that the armed patriot is the only thing standing between him and his dream of the entire US transforming and descending into an entitlement ‘utopia’ (read: Detroit) where the productive are scorned and marginalized yet EBT cards, incivility, violent crime, and breakdown of infrastructure are the norm. It’s not about guns, it’s about control, period.

  • Paul

80% of the violent crimes are committed by 15% of the population, enough said, and it’s not White Christian males.

  • Ben Raines

Apparently it acceptable by the rabid left to racially classify people that they disagree with as “white Southern males” somehow it is noble to attack these people based on there race. I also don’t understand how everyone that “can’t get with the program” is now an enemy of the state…Somehow disagreeing on politics has become treason to the left…I am guessing they see the need for re-education camps in the future.

Very sad state of affairs in America…We can only hope that President Obama outlaws rabid leftwing racially biased blogs that spread hatred for Americans.

  • Margret Ollis

Good article now how do we get this information out in to the open for discussion. Here in Milwaukee we have a so called “Christian” radio/television station, WVCY. Recently guests on the station made statements like, if we allow gun control to happen we will be like the folks in the Middle East who have nothing but sticks and stones to fight with. And another was telling the audience that President Obama was immoral for advocating gun control legislation. Using the airwaves to promote gun violence is evil and needs to be exposed for what it is.

    • Federalist45

Margret: It is good to know that you are listening to folks who talk some common sense. Keep listening to WVCY, as it appears they have it about right.

      MOLON LABE

      • Margret Ollis

What! I listen hear and there to WVCY so that I can inform myself. How can I fight the opposition if you don’t know what they are up to! If I want to hear some common sense talk I surely won’t tune in to WVCY.

  • Federalist45

    Mr. Shaeffer:

This is my first encounter with your shrill and vicious insults and attacks on your brothers in Christ. I cannot describe how disappointed and hurt I am by your remarks. You may disagree with people, but you should not call them names, misrepresent their intent, and paint them dishonestly.

You actually write in your piece that those who disagree with you are “ill” and “racist.” I am simply shocked that a man who purports to be Christian and who appears to want to reflect Christ would do this sort of thing. It is so dishonest and so ill-intended, there is simply no way for you to get around it–you are being intentionally hurtful and hateful and mean-spirited. You are reflecting, for all readers, an anti-Christ attitude.

At this point, about all I would say on this thread is this: if this thread is any indication of where are nation is today, we had better all pray for one another, for our leadership, and for our own souls.

  • Anti-Federalist

Frank, you need to look up the following word: “strawman”.

That’s a nice strawman you have built up.

The reason why large numbers of gun owners think Obama and the Democrats are after guns is because, well, frankly, they are. One of the ideas initially floated in New York’s ridiculous gun bill was confiscation. Right now they are settling for registration and a magazine capacity limit of 7 rounds, but it takes someone with strong powers of denial to not see confiscation just around the corner. It’s exactly the playbook that was followed in Australia and the United Kingdom.

    • Brian

Don’t you love how these yokels find a big word like “strawman” to use only after some dumbass like Paul “Fake Ops” Ryan uses it on Fox?

      • Chuck

It takes a product of the public school system to think “strawman” is a “big word.”
You’re pretty tough behind the keyboard in your mom’s basement calling grown men “yokels.” As always, the progressive must rely on insults because he lacks the intellectual depth to make a coherent argument.

  • Bob

People such as Frank, with all their supposed “intellect”, are too stupid to realize that if the insulated nobility in Washington would stop talking about taking guns away from the “southern white males who refuse to get with the program”, those said white males would stop talking about defending their rights.

On Saturday December 16, 2012, 1 day after the CT shooting, a man went to a restaurant in San Antonio to kill his X-girlfriend. After he shot her, most of the people in the restaurant fled next door to a theater. The gunman followed them and entered the theater so he could shoot more people. He started shooting and people in the theater started running and screaming. It’s like the Aurora, CO theater story plus a restaurant!

Now aren’t you wondering why this isn’t a lead story in the national media along with the school shooting?

There was an off duty county deputy at the theater. SHE saw the man, read the danger, pulled out her gun and shot him 4 times before he had a chance to kill anyone there.

So since this story makes the point that the best thing to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, the media is treating it like it never happened.

Only the local media covered it. The city is giving her a medal next week.

Just thought you’d like to know.

I’m not sure what to make of myself, then… white, female, agnostic (I think), left-of-center on social issues but right-of-center on fiscal matters, personally abhors racism, sexism, homophobia, pro-choice, don’t like the current president or the 4 before him, and, oh, yeah… a big supporter of the Second Amendment and will oppose any and all attempts at infringement. And then there is my husband that is all of the above except male, and then my 2 female housemates that are even further left-of-center and atheist, plus at least a dozen lefty-leaning good friends of various races up here north of the 45th Parallel. All of us liking that Second Amendment to not be infringed, nor thinking that the recent uproar about gun control is anything short of emotion-fueled nonsensical agenda-pushing politics at its worst. Stereotypes are ever so inconvenient when trying to use them to win an argument.

Maybe some of these idiots should actually read the Second Amendment, as it pertains to militia, not billybob. Then go a step further and picture WHY it was written – because what would eventually become known as native americans were trying to burn their houses down, with good reason i might add. Finally, the odds are zero that the writers of the amendment thought of anything except single shot muskets, let alone rifles that can kill an entire classroom in twenty seconds. If you want to adhere to the amendment so badly, join the army with only a single shot musket and shoot only if native americans throw tomahawks at you. If not, shut up and don’t touch anything. It’s a shame that the word retard is so incorrect these days, because it’s exactly what these people are.

    Frank,
    Thanks for an excellent article.

“I think that sooner than later an individual or individuals are going to take this paranoid delusional call to arms seriously and kill one or more of our elected leaders.” Uh…it already has been attempted. I’m sure the Honey Boo Boo Gun Owners’ Club has forgotten about Gabrielle Giffords, but I sure haven’t.

As for “martial law”, it’s sad that laws have to be made in this country just because about a third of the country consists of slack-jawed, toothless, tiny-organed imbeciles who would think that Jesus was the Antichrist if three seperate people on F*ck News said it, but it’s probably necessary for the same reason that seat belts, child car seats and/or motorcycle helmets are mandatory in places….because we know people are too stupid to care about themselves or their children otherwise. Hell, they haven’t even figured out that texting in a speeding car is dangerous; what chance do they have of coming around to responsibility regarding weapons in this millennium? Add that to the fact that a lot of their kids only exist because they hadn’t mastered that condom thang (or it infringed on their 323rd Amendment right to spawn a child and then not care enough for it to protect it in a moving missile).

  • DarkTruths

Speaking of Jesus, how are you so-called Christian gun owners reconciling the “thou shalt not kill”-writing thing you claim to worship with blowing away his creations, human and otherwise? Could it be you’re really satanists pretending to be christians to get your way, the same way republican congressmen claim to love guns only because they make a hell of a lot of money off of them in kickbacks and vacation villas? Never have so many been so gullibly duped by so few. John Boehner laughs at you every day.

    • JonBlade

Note that all those congressmen work in a town that bans guns, yet the NRA and its blind buttlickers don’t seem to be rioting all up in the place over that… they use your stupidity because it’s so easy to do. They could sell you butt-plugs and tell them they keep out Obama-rays, and you’d be full by sundown.

    • New2.5

Your ignorance is showing. There is no Commandment not to kill. The Commandment you refer to tells us not to MURDER. In Ecclesiastes, scripture teaches us that there is indeed “a time to kill and a time to heal,”

  • JonBlade

I don’t think we have to worry about a southern revolution if they shoot as well as they think. They’ll kill themselves off the first time someone accidentally knocks off their truck-nuts in the monster-truck-show parking lot.

  • Brad

Frank, Good article. Everything you said is correct. For proof… Read the comments against you above. But you knew that.

    • randall

Yep. Please keep writing, Frank. :-)

  • http://patheos Threeten2yuma

Frank, you’ve just done the literary equivalent of yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theatre. And if something horrible happens, some of the blood may be on your hands, Bro. The way you recklessly utilize rhetoric is like a four year old playing with a loaded gun. Do you really want your grandchildren to one day read this crap and come to think that their beloved grandfather was really just a dangerous and crazy old coot? How much do your friends have to beg you to apply your creative talents to something beautiful, even if you never make another dime from your art? Don’t let your children’s children one day find nothing left to them but all this obscenity! I can’t even read this bilge anymore. Your real friend, -3:10

    • Perroni

If all it takes is a blog article for someone to start shooting, it’s irrefutable proof that the shooter should not be allowed to have a gun. Thanks for helping Frank make his point.

      • http://Patheos threeten2yuma

        Well, um, you’re welcome, I guess . . . but now I’m somewhat confused.

If irresponsible, incendiary blogging and, presumably, other writing and/or speaking cannot incite actual violence, then why are Frank’s panties all in a wad?

  • Jeff

Frank- Congrats! By letting the people you spoke of respond to your writing it has, in essence, proved your point. Their reactions are merely symptomatic of the culture of violence/racism still so prevalent in society today. Sadly so we have many public officials that share this distortion. And yes, many reside in the evangelical/Republican circle as you mentioned. More fascinating is that it parallels the reactions received by the Old Testament prophets when they spoke out against the ills of society. No wonder that these prophet of old were so reluctant.
    Jeff

    • http://Patheos threeten2yuma

Oh Mary, Jeff! (I’m still not sure I’m doing that right.)

Stop encouraging Frank’s ridiculous behavior . . . especially right after I just tried to reason with him. You people don’t give a damn about him, you just use him to utter all the blasphemies you haven’t got the guts or a sufficient megaphone to trumpet yourselves. Should the left ever rid itself of its right wing opposition, people like Frank are next on your lists because he used to be a right winger and, worse still, he used to publicly profess his faith in the Jesus Christ of the Bible! So Frank is, and always will be, suspect to all true believer Marxists, perhaps one such as yourself.

You have no business speaking of “Old Testament prophets” since you evidently know nothing about them, except their title. The writer of the New Testament Epistle to the Hebrews described these people in the famous 11th chapter of that book thus:

36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

      37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

Does that description sound like Frank Schaeffer in any of the various stages of his life. The man had a really fascinating and decent upbringing by some of the admittedly-imperfect but altogether most wonderful parents anyone ever had the privilege to know. Frank’s been wined and dined first by right wing moguls and now to a lesser degree by left wingers. That’s probably why he never really grew out of his infantile narcissism.

But the Gospel of Jesus Christ is more powerful than any man’s ability to destroy himself and everything around him. I’m still praying for Frank’s redemption. Why don’t you do something useful, Jeff, if you are, in fact, a believer in Jesus and not a goddamned Communist and join me!

      Love, -3:10

      • http://Patheos threeten2yuma

By the way, they’re not “goddamned” because they’re Communists. They’re only damned if they foolishly enter eternity without having confessed their sins to God and asked Him for forgiveness based on the atoning sacrificial death of Jesus Christ who rose again from the dead and is Lord forevermore!

        Just so you know.

      • m and m

Threeten…shame on you. You just used God’s in vain.

  • Federalist45

In an interesting coincidence, I just saw the film, “The Pianist.” Why would this be an interesting coincidence? Well, for most of the first half of the film, I kept asking myself where are their guns? Why are they not defending themselves? Could they not at least find a knife or a fork to thrust into the throat of the Nazi who is about to order them shot?

Clearly, a disarmed people are a docile people. The Nazis pull 8 out of a line of 25. They are ordered to kneel. Then they are order to lie down, face first. All do it. An officer walks slowly down the line and shoots each one in the head, in order. Not a peep out of any of them. They had given up any concept of defense long before that moment. They accepted what their evil masters chose to do with them. Of course, disarmed, how could they do otherwise?

    • Perroni

Blah blah blah. You forgot to say “Jesus” or “Troops”.

Frank-Did Glen Beck happen to get his mailing list mixed with yours? Sounds like those on the right have a lot of time on their hands along with very little in the terms of ability to engage in meaningful communication. They certainly don’t like the taste of their own medicine in which this article may have portrayed in their own minds. By the way, in their own minds is quite literally the beginning and end of a reality bubble world.

  • http://SovietofPortlandia pdxr13

    Can’t…read…all…of…this…blather.
Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are MAINSTREAM comedy/commentators. If you want to hear some moderate Americans who have valid opinions about what is really going on, I suggest James Wesley Rawles or Matthew Bracken. Both are thoughtful and careful men with an understanding of what the unintended consequences of your your call for an internal war inside the USA entails.

You cite SPLC. Bwaaaa Haw Haw Haw! Four lies for the price of one, as they are a combination of a Morris Dees self-funding operation and Anti-White self-loathing racist “Center”. You discredit yourself by mentioning or referencing them or their products.

    Must retch and move on.

So let’s see where we are on the road to persecution…

    2. marginalizing its role in society…check
    3. vilifying it for alleged crimes or misconduct (this article)…check
    4. criminalizing it (proposed gun legislation, existing hate laws)…almost done
    5. persecution…coming next

Frank, Frank, Frank – so big of a swiss cheese, so many holes …

I’m one of those nutcases you are excoriating – I am a firm believer in guns, the Constitution, the FACT that govt overreach has gotten completely out of hand – the whole nine yards – pretty much everything you listed in your wild rant.

Only I’m not from the South. Originally from the Midwest, I’ve traveled and lived all over the planet, I lived in Russia, China, Europe. And I’m not a Christian – at best an agnostic. And I’m a Producer – you know, one of those people who actually BUILD things – I’m an engineer by trade. And I have a 150+ IQ – and no it’s not a misprint and no, it’s not a lie. And you see Frank, I’m one of those paranoid nutcases who hates minorities – only whoops, my wife is one, and so are my kids. And I’m paranoid and hate all the time because I can’t stand Obama – only I don’t. Obama, a half-WHITE man raised by a white mother and white grandparents, about as big of an Oreo as you will ever find, is just a President doing his best to hold a nation together that is in the terminal stage of collapse. Obama is Hoover if you want to look at it historically.

Are there right wing evangelical nutcases who hate Obama ? You betcha.

Are ALL people who are for the rule of law, the importance of the Constitution, the human right of self-defense and the belief that the best govt is the least intrusive – are we all paranoid right-wing treasonous nutcases ? No we are not.

What a lot of us are, is prophets. And like all prophets we are never honored in our own land, nor by our own people. We see the future writ large on the wall of time – we read things – books like Rifkin’s Entropy book, Strauss & Howe’s The Fourth Turning, Ayn Rand’s eerily prophetic Atlas Shrugged.

And we, unlike most of our fellow citizens, can count.

We count the 200 million + that were SLAUGHTERED by their own govts in the 20th century alone, not soldiers, not fighters, bystanders – under Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin. I lived with a man in Russia who lived thru the Siege of Leningrad and watched his family die one by one.

Frank you live in a fantasy- land, a land where there are no evil psychopaths elevated to positions of leadership – voted in my a majority of Americans with a collective average IQ of 96. You live in a land of rainbows and skittle crapping unicorns where the sun always shines and the only people who can understand hate and racism are the ones who vote Democrat.

Here’s the thing Frank – you are wrong.

About pretty much everything you believe. And that’s ok, you know because I learned a long time ago we are all put on this earth for a reason, sometimes to experience things, sometimes to learn things, to be a better person.

And sometimes, maybe we are put here as an object lesson for others. To allow others to watch a particular life path and see what the end result will be. That is you purpose Frank. Because people like you, who wholeheartedly grasp onto one false, evil paradigm, in a desperate attempt to reject the false, evil paradigm you were raised under – you ARE what you truly believe you hate the most – you’re just the other side of that particular coin.

So here is a little short math lesson for all who believe Frank is right.

Do you see a pattern here :

    1780 Rev War
    1860 Civ War
    1940 WW2
    2020 WW3/Rev War 2/ Civ War 2

    Hint – 2nd grade math.

Yes, they are 80 years apart. The length of a long human life – because … each society goes thru cycles of 80 years when the oldest among them dies and the society repeats its mistakes, just in a rhyming fashion.

Watch what happens to Frank in the next 5 years. Watch what happens to Frank’s wife, his children, all the people that believe the foolishness coming from his lips. Watch how much they suffer from his delusional thinking.

    And learn.

  • http://patheos Threeten2yuma

    Fred,

As Ayn Rand once famously said to William F. Buckley, but turning it around so that it actually makes sense, “You are too smart to be agnostic!”

Praying for you and Frank, Bro!

You obviously have a huge agenda to work out of your system.

I could not even begin to point out the errors in your thinking (I do hope you were able to integrate at least some of the other comments you’ve received though) – which really begs the question: are you disseminating this dribble because you are simply regurgitating propaganda you’ve been brainwashed with or are you disseminating this dribble because you know what you are doing and are doing it deliberately?

Either way, distributing such rabid rage has nothing to do with Jesus – I suggest you go back to basics.

At this point, I consider the fascist agenda of Barack Obama far more dangerous than any right-wing paranoid gun-nut movement. Moreover, extremism on the right is the result of the seeds sown by Obama himself, his sniveling liberal supporters, and the chickenshit Congress for allowing a president to run roughshod over the Constitution and every other law designed to waylay the imperial machinations of an imperial presidency. Obama is the worst president ever for destroying the last vestiges of liberty and democracy, for lying, for hypocrisy, for war crimes, for capitulation to the corporate-banking crime syndicate, and for continuing American militarization of the world for the benefit of the bankers and the corporate fascists. Nothing too terrible could possibly happen to Barack Obama — he deserves the worst.
