My Church Is All Wet

My Church Is All Wet August 5, 2012

You know what’s great about going to a Catholic church on a hot day?

The holy water.

Seriously.

The usual order of service is, going into and perhaps out of the church you dab your finger into the fount. You then dab some of the water that has been blessed by a priest onto your forehead as you make the sign of the cross.

Now play the same scene again on a particularly sweltering day. You can bet that a good number of us are going to reach for more than the usual dab.

It feels good, that blessed water against your overheated brow. During heat waves, I always half-expect a wave of anabaptism to break out.
