Archdiocese “Journey Together in Hope” and “Viajando Juntos en Esperanza” retreats

The Archdiocese every year sponsors these retreats at Aldersgate Retreat Center in Turner, OR to get special needs individuals to at least one Mass a year where nobody is bothered by their non-standard behavior. My family, due to my son Christopher’s CP and my nephew’s autism, has participated in this for the last two years. This is a weekend that is very special to the families involved- we have formed friendships there that have enabled other children to spend time with my son and even get involved in special needs sports.

This retreat is coming up fast- at the end of August for the English version, the beginning of September for the Spanish version.

If you have a special needs individual in your family, I highly recommend sending them the following info.

Registration forms and information can be found at the Archdiocese of Portland Office for People With Disabilities webpage.

Remember, whatever you do for the least of our brothers- that we do for Jesus Christ.

Even my brand new Knights of Columbus Council is giving $50 to the Archdiocese Office for People with Disabilities in hopes of providing a few scholarships to get some people to the Eucharist who normally are too disruptive or low functioning for Church. The retreat also offers some respite for caregivers;
