That is a very good article which ought to be heeded. I’m pleased to see quotation from Dawson, and as always a reference to Kirk.

I must disagree somewhat with his assertion that “[t]here is no such thing as social justice.” I understand what he’s getting at in light of his reasoned admonition to avoid left/right dichotomies as presenting false divisions, but the social teaching certainly seems to think social justice as such is something to note. From the catechism, in an article entitled “Social Justice”:

1928 Society ensures social justice when it provides the conditions that allow associations or individuals to obtain what is their due, according to their nature and their vocation. Social justice is linked to the common
good and the exercise of authority.

Yes, Birzer is ’way off base here, in contradicting the Catechism, IMO. What the Catechism has repeately termed “social justice” (in # 2426 as well as in # 1928 ff.), let us not call nonexistent. For just because Communist regimes have misused the term “people’s democracy”, neither does it follow that “there is no such thing as democracy”. Just because the term “free love” has been abused, it doesn’t follow that there is no such thing as freedom, or as love. Just because the term “truth” has been abused, it doesn’t follow that there is no such thing as truth. Just because, … oh well, y’all get my drift, right?
