Turns out There are Professional Liars

No. Seriously.

A reader writes:

When the going gets weird the liars turn pro. What do you make of the observation that US professional lying is more rare than in Europe or Japan?

Um, hard to say. Could be true. Could be that Americans are bigger liars than Europeans and Japanese and don’t want to admit it. 🙂

“I believe that my moral compass is intact,” he said.
“We are not breaking any laws, and if we help people out, I feel like
we are doing a positive service.”

I can never remember specifics, but I remember when I was in Catholic grade school, we studied levels of moral maturity, and how some people never get beyond a certain point. A low level of that study was the reliance solely on legality, in other words, “If it’s legal then it must be moral.”

It seems a huge number of people rely on this form of morality.

seems pretty close to what I was describing, but since it was grade school I doubt it was explained as psychological theory.

    • There are signs in the convenience stores where I live that read, “Buying cigarettes for minors: It’s not just wrong, it’s illegal.” I always thought that was completely backwards, but maybe it’s spot on for the people they’re aiming it at.

You must be pretty bad if Facebook rejects your ads.

God help us if Live Action and this guy ever hook up.

Paladin Deception Services … no contradiction in terms there.

Aside from the business model itself, that part irked me.

Paladins are supposed to be Lawful Good (which carries truth-telling as a given) or they can lose their powers.

At least until the exceedingly lame 4th edition rules.

    These men should be spanked.
