The Infrastructure of Tyranny

Reader Chris Sparks writes:

Inspired by Conor Friedersdorf’s list in The Atlantic, I thought I’d do a series of posts giving a run down of the different elements of the infrastructure of tyranny operating under the aegis of the United States today. I thought this might be of interest to you and your readers.

Wanna know what the first step is toward recovering freedom is?

Believing the truth that you are free in Christ and not the property of the state.  It starts there. As long as you believe you are helpless before Leviathan, you will be.  The moment you say, “I belong to God, not Caesar or Mammon” you start to make it a reality.  Believe the truth, not the lies of Caesar and Mammon.

Commenting on the Atlantic article, I do not think the problem with terrorism is the infinitesimal chance that any of us will die in a homemade explosion, but rather that our social fabric is so fragile that even just a few more terrorist attacks would freak people out enough that they’d stop trusting each other to the point that commerce would slow, the slowly recovering economy would falter, and irrational suspicion of anything and anyone would rule the day. A 9/11 every year would kill just 0.001% of us, but it would destroy any lingering common trust in our institutions and each other.
