Sherry Weddell’s Forming Intentional Disciples

is rocking the Catholic world.

It has sold around 40,000 copies (a *gigantic* number for a Catholic book) and is OSV’s #1 bestseller.

If you haven’t read it, you should. It is one of the most important Catholic books written this decade. Go get it here.

Sherry’s book is excellent and I’d like to see her follow it up with a video course. We are currently doing a video course on discipleship at my parish and the content is good, but the presentation is way too academic and intellectual for the average lay person.

Thanks for the kind words, Jonathan and Kirt. Just curious – what “video course on discipleship” are you showing at your parish?

Hi Sherry. The course is called Discipleship presented by Fr. Anthony Gittins, C.S.Sp., M.A., Ph.D. We’ve so far covered three out of a projected 12 sessions. Presentation is straight lecture style on the video, followed by three or four questions for discussion afterwards.

  • My diocesan office has bought 300+ copies of the book and given them out to all our pastors, the bishop, deacons, DREs, principals, and anyone else interested in the work of evangelization. It’s a must-read!

This is good, but I sense a lack of emphasis on establishing a prayer life in these kinds of discussions.
