I believe in pre-emptive peace

…so I’m already against the next war that Norman Podhoretz and similar impenitently stupid apostles of the  Thing That Used to be Conservatism like Bill “Wrong about Everything” Kristol would love to plunge us into.  Happily, there seem to be a growing number of conservative thinkers like George Will who seem to have actually learned from trusting these fools and charlatans and are calling for containment of, not war with, Iran.

Doubtless by the time the American right more or less in toto learns the painful lesson that the only defensible wars are wars of defense (to borrow from GKC), the left will have more or less in toto embraced the delusion that progress grows out of the barrel of a gun (to borrow from Mao). It seems as certain a swing as a pendulum’s.

Happily, in a spirit of bipartisanship, we’ll doubtless continue in the vein of believing a war just when justified by one’s political sympathies.

But if we don’t go to war with Iran then they will hate us for our freedoms and THE TERRORISTS WILL HAVE WON!!!

Let’s cut these guys a deal: We’ll buy their war if they go on an unguarded walking tour of Iraq with lots of advance publicity so they can drop in on folks and ask them how our “liberation” is working for them.
