Sez he:

Just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your blog and your sanity amid the rise Trump vis a vis the vitriol targeted to our Holy Father whom I really love. I think you are fighting the good fight against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.

I’m a petroleum geologist up here in Alaska and once was a climate change “skeptic” until I started to read about the science behind it. I think it would be good to occasionally bring up the fact that as Christians who believe that God gave us this wonderful creation out of love, we should be the most interested in conserving its biodiversity and beauty, especially in light of catastrophic climate change.

Climate change is likely to be mankind’s greatest challenge in the upcoming century. The Vatican just hosted a conference with some of the greatest minds on the matter to discuss biological extinction, which they estimate may eliminate 20-40% of life by the end of the century.

I hope you can start to bring an element of environmental conservation into your blog, at least once in a while, to bring needed catholic awareness to something that’s very fundamental to our faith, that by treating creation as something to be wasted, we invariably will treat one another in the same manner, including the unborn and the poor. I guess you can say it’s the other way around, but nevertheless, how we treat each other is linked to how we treat creation.

As Pope Francis has stated “God always forgives, we men forgive sometimes, but nature never forgives”, we may surely usher in devastation to creation which invariably harms the poor the most, and ultimately our children and grandchildren.

On that note, hope to see you again in Anchorage!

Good to hear from you!

I have largely avoided the topic mostly out of ignorance.  My habit, like the Church’s, is to assume scientists know what they are talking about.  But since I don’t know what I’m talking about, I have tended not to discuss it much because I know I will be swarmed with combox “experts” who have Read a Thing or Two and know that the real situation is that the Prophet Trump is right, it’s a Chinese conspiracy, and only a dedicated band of oil billionaires can save us from the cabal of evil scientists.

In short, I just don’t have the energy to take up this fight.  “They have Francis and the scientists.  If they will not listen to them, they will not believe, though one rose from the dead.”
