Rest in Peace
My personal memory of Utah Phillips was at the Lawrence Bread and Roses festival in about 1986.I was a stage manager for one of the day stages, but was in the office early on Saturday to help out.Someone called out that Utah Phillips was on the phone wondering where his ride was. I was the only one in the office right then who (a) didn’t have a specific job right then and (b) had a car – so I suddenly didn’t qualify for (a) anymore I picked him up and it was a nice ride. I asked him about Woody Guthrie and he told a few stories about being on the rails during the depression.Later that afternoon, he gave me a really nice shout-out from the stage. It’s a good memory.
