A Meditation on Prayer Evelyn Underhill (I’m enormously fond of Evelyn Underhill. Her magisterial study, Mysticism, was an essential guidepost for me as I was forming my spiritual life. Eihei Dogen was born on the 19th of January in 1200. He is recalled as the founder of the Japanese Soto school (Caodong in Chinese) and as one of the great spiritual writers of all time.
