masters and servants keep things orderly

asses and kiss asses cartoon by nakedpastor david hayward

Buying art is AWESOME!

Even though there is a lot of pressure to conform to this world order, don’t!

Even though there is a lot of pressure to conform to this religious order, don’t!

The religious use of biblical language about masters and servants and slaves and redemption and bought with a price and bondservant and lord and service and unquestioning obedience, etcetera, all come from an age when slavery was an assumed, acceptable and even enviable way of life.

I’ve been encouraged and even pressured to kiss ass a lot. I used to because I thought it was necessary. To belong. To succeed. To stay. I’ve always noticed that with it you usually get a promise in return. Just words. But I’ve refused for a long time now and I’m doing quite well thank you very much.

You don’t have to be an ass.

You don’t have to kiss one either.

Looks like corporate Canada, academia, political parties and much more. Sometimes, to transition out of being an ass-kisser it is useful to moon the privileged class. You don’t have to be an ass, but don’t be afraid to show it! Nice isn’t all it is cracked up to be. (accidental pun)

Just wanted to say that I’ve been throughly enjoying your irreverent depiction of the relevant. To be honest I’ve had to force myself to not share every cartoon! Now I have rationing. I have to decide when one is just too perfect before sharing it. Thanks for just being…..

Totally corporate America. The difference IMO is that in corporate America I can be like “oh, my boss is an asshole and I have to pretend to kiss his ass because it’s all a game and this is how it’s played.” Or, “yeah, I don’t give a shit what he thinks, who cares if I’m ever promoted.”
In churchianity you can’t say that or else you’re like…. disrespecting GOD or something (according to them) because you aren’t revering his appointed leader. And then you’ll go to hell.

Hi David, I’ve already read a similar complain from Thom Stark and share much of his indignation.

However, I’ve no problem saying God is my Master and my Lord. Why?

Because He is perfectly good, and all the problem that monarchy and slavery caused were due to human sin.

    Lovely greetings from Germany.
    Liebe Grüsse aus Deutschland.

While my father was a student pastor he was told, in the office of the church, no less, that he and my mother would need to start kissing the right asses or they (the members of the church) would make our lives miserable. Which they did.

Chesterton quote from my FB feed today. — Different from kissing ass. I don’t think I’ve ever kissed ass.

Love is not blind; that is the last thing it is. Love is bound; and the more it is bound the less it is blind.

    ~ G. K. Chesterton
