Applied Immersion Linguistics at SBL in San Francisco

Applied Immersion Linguistics at SBL in San Francisco September 22, 2011

I received my SBL program book in the mail yesterday, and looked to see what sessions looked interesting and begin figuring out which I might like to attend.

Among the most striking are the lunchtime meetings in applied linguistics:

S20-202 Applied Linguistics for Biblical Languages
11/20/2011
11:45 AM to 12:45 PM
Room: Howard – Intercontinental

Theme: Greek Lunch
Members interested in Greek pedagogy are invited to meet with each other in a friendly setting over a BYOL lunch (bring your own lunch). Discussion may focus on personal interests or professional interests and should be conducted in Koine Greek. All levels and pronunciations are welcome.

Daniel Streett, Criswell College, Presiding

The name of the person presiding should be familiar. Daniel Streett has a blog καὶ τὰ λοιπά, and has been actively promoting an immersion approach to the acquisition of Biblical languages.

There will also be a similar lunch for Hebrew:

S21-201 Applied Linguistics for Biblical Languages

11/21/2011
11:45 AM to 12:45 PM
Room: Pacific E – Marriott Marquis

Theme: Hebrew Lunch
Members interested in Hebrew pedagogy are invited to meet with each other in a friendly setting over a BYOL lunch (bring your own lunch). Discussion may focus on personal interests or professional interests and should be conducted in classical Hebrew. All levels and pronunciations are welcome.

Paul Overland, Ashland Theological Sem, Presiding

What a wonderful idea. Spread the word about these events on your own blogs – in any language you choose.
