The Library of the Camaldoli Hermitage

Finally, here’s the librarian showing us the Camaldoli Psalter, a collection of lyrics and music used for singing at the monastery which was made in the twelfth century (although I think the date of this particular manuscript may be from the 13th century).

When, prior to my travels this summer, I saw on a map how isolated Camaldoli was, I wondered whether I would regret the fact that, for my first trip to Italy, I would spend most of my time “in the middle of nowhere.” Having been there, I not only wouldn’t have traded the time spent there for time in any other location, but I also would love to return, and will recommend it as a worthwhile destination to others.
