Moving and Summer Schedule

Moving and Summer Schedule June 9, 2012

We head North on Friday. Everything thusfar has gone smoothly and pleasantly and we are very close to signing a lease for what seems to be a very nice condo in Grand Forks. All in all, this is a transition that feels just right. I will surely miss some people here — first and foremost my students (you know who you are) — but they know as well as I do that Wabash is no longer a proper home for me or my work. I often go back and forth in my head about writing a cathartic series on my time at Wabash, first online and maybe later as a book, who knows…

I’ve booked three dates for music gigs:

1. The first is on Sunday, June 24th for the Gather4Good, sponsored by Catholic United Financial, at Cedar Lake Farm in New Prague, MN. I’ll be playing with my old, brother-in-laws trio: Shawn Kolles on drumset and Ken Perkerwicz on bass. The event is free; if you’re around, I hope you can make it. You can preregister for it here.

2. On July 9th, I’ll reunite with my friends in Sonar, a Twin Cities Catholic band, playing electric guitar and singing backup vocals at the John Paul II Youth Leadership Camp in Crookston, MN.

3. Shawn Kolles and I will play at the Red Stag Supperclub on Saturday, July 21st in Minneapolis. We’ll play more originals at this show and mix in some standards and covers too. This promises to be a great show and at a great venue.

I’ll bring along my new Zoom3 recorder and hope to share some audio and video here for those who can’t make it. I may also be giving a talk or two during this time; I’ll keep you posted on that too.

I’ll also be going to my homestate, the great Republic of Texas, for a week in July to visit family and friends while meeting about a future, co-authored book (with Ennie Hickman), attending a wedding (for my friend and God-son, Ross Fible), and fishing for speckled trout (with my Dad and Tio Meme) on the Gulf coast.

Now we’re off to the annual, Strawberry Festival, Crawfordsville’s major cultural event of the year!
