Harvey Weinstein Turns Himself in to New York Police – GOOD

Harvey Weinstein Turns Himself in to New York Police – GOOD May 25, 2018

They’ve got him.

I’ve been following this story and will likely continue to talk about it, because it’s important.

Namely, the story of Hollywood film producer and all-around scumbag, Harvey Weinstein.

Weinstein’s crimes came to light in October 2017, thanks to Ronan Farrow and The New Yorker.

Unfortunately, it came after several decades of using his position as a producer to victimize dozens of women (somewhere between 70 to 80).

Harvey Weinstein was the first – possibly the worst – out of a growing list of powerful men  doing truly awful things to women, men, and children.

Yes. It is that bad, but bringing these atrocities to the surface needed to happen.

Why did it take so long?

When we think back, there have been various personalities, dropping bread crumbs along the trail, but never coming right out and openly exposing Weinstein for his deeds.

What’s more, there have been people like Corey Feldman, a former child star, attempting to turn the public on to a history of child sex abuse in Hollywood for years. Only now, since the Weinstein case, is he being listened to with the kind of solemn ear this subject deserves.

Male actors are not immune.

Brendan Fraser, whose star burned bright in the 90s, faded away, inexplicably. He’s only recently began to reemerge, and told a tale of a disturbing encounter with a Hollywood power player that left him shaken.

Even tough guy Terry Crew spoke of being inappropriately touched by a Hollywood executive.

The perversion knows no bounds.

But back to Weinstein…

Weinstein arrived at a New York police station in the early morning hours, and of course, there was the expected mass of media.

He’s used to cameras and attention, but not for this reason.

Two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press the case includes a woman who has said Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex during a meeting at his office in 2004.

The woman, Lucia Evans, (LOO’-sha) was among the first to speak out about the film producer.

An official says the charges are likely to include one other victim who has not spoken publicly.

I suspect the other victim here is Paz de la Huerta, probably best known for her role with the HBO series, “Boardwalk Empire.”

De la Huerta has alleged that the producer forcibly raped her on two separate occasions in 2010. Hers is probably one of the more compelling (and horrific) cases against Weinstein.

She has already talked with authorities, and while she’s not being named along with Evans, at this time, expect to hear her name again.

A law enforcement official says Harvey Weinstein will face criminal sex act and rape charges in a New York court.

He’ll see a judge later today.

Other charges that Weinstein may be faced with, according to some reports from earlier this week, include stalking and luring women across state lines for the purposes of forcing them into sex acts.

So why didn’t these women come forward, sooner?

The obvious reason would be fear for their careers. Less obvious may be feelings of guilt, or even that “This is the way it’s done.”

We can’t know if we’re not in their shoes. We can second-guess how they reacted it, or even why now, but we can’t (and shouldn’t) condemn them.

We can absolutely stand with them and celebrate seeing justice done, at long last.
