Sr. Mary Magdalene!

On this wonderful solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, our friends the Dominican Nuns of Summit, NJ have clothed a new novice in the habit, and in religion her name will be:

Sr. Mary Magdalene of the Immaculate Conception

The pictures are lovely (the new sister is glowing and the whole community seems joyfilled), and the comments section is informative.

In her first monastic Advent and Christmas season, the former Sr. Carri takes the names of the two women who remained with Christ in his most difficult hour, when the men had run away. How good!

May God bless Sr. Mary Magdalene and bring to completion the good he has begun in her. And may the whole novitiate persevere in their vocations.

I’m hoping to visit Summit sometime next year. It will be wonderful to meet them, and to pray in their beautiful chapel, on the public side, of course.

I met the Dominican cloistered nuns when they were in Newark. I think some of them chose Summit when the Newark monastery was transferred to the Franciscans. So I send all my love to them! But the one I was closest to in Newark was a Sr. Mary Magdalene!.. a living saint, who moved to the monastery in Michigan. What a small world..warms my heart to be reminded of these fantastic nuns who were such a source of strength and inspiration, still are!

None of the Newark nuns tranferred to Summit. Most went to their daughter-house in Farmington Hills, MI. A few went to other monasteries.

We miss them, too and yes, Sr. Mary Magdalen is an incredible woman! She is going strong although her health isn’t good.
