Mindblowing Catholicism

Ladies and Gents I am going to boldly proclaim something to you with absolute confidence that I am right and in no danger of being told otherwise: you will love this book. Not only will you love it; you’ll treasure it, return to it often and want to give a copy of it to everyone you know, even if they are not Catholic.

I’m very serious.

Catholicism; A Journey to the Heart of the Faith is going to be released on September 6th, and you will want it on that day, and reading it will open up for you the mysterious and overwhelmingly joyous truth about Christ and His Church, in ways you never imagined.

The book is something of a companion to the ten-part Catholicism series Father Barron has been laboring on for the last three years, but it is — stand alone, all by itself — perhaps the best overview of who we are, what we believe and why we believe it, that I’ve ever read.

And I will tell you exactly why that is, tomorrow.

For today, check out Catholicism’s new trailer. And keep an eye on your local PBS schedule, several episodes of the series will soon be broadcast.

Also check out small previews at Matt Warner’s place, and watch for the Patheos Book Club to be discussing it, as well!

I don’t think you can go overboard when reviewing this book. Without hyperbole, it’s the best single-volume book on Catholicism I’ve ever read. Here’s my review:

Thank you for this post. I remember the first time I watched the Catholicism series trailer (think it might have been on your blog!) ….I was so excited…….I just couldn’t wait to share it with someone else!!!!!

The trailer looks great. I’m trying to convince my fellow Confirmation class teachers to use the DVD’s in our Confirmation program this year.

Curious question: On the cover, why Robert Barron instead of Fr. Robert Barron? I would have liked the “Fr.” to be there. (Really – not being grumpy or picky – just wondering having felt a little surprise when I saw it.)

I am a huge fan of Fr. Barron. I watched him when he was on WGN and I still listen to his sermons and web commentaries on the Word On Fire website. He is the best public proponent in the US for the faith since Bishop Sheen (with the possible exception of the late Fr. Neuhaus) and I wish he could get a broader US audience.

I’ve been all over the web page for it, reading away and anxiously awaiting this great work of Fr. Barron. This is hugely important work – I am so thrilled.

The quality of the series looks really great….I hope he has found a little time to speak about the Eastern rites….in any case, I will buy the book and I am looking forward to the series
