You Are Not Wrong

You Are Not Wrong November 14, 2016

You are not wrong if you are grieving.

You are not wrong if you are full of rage.

You are not wrong if you are terrified.

You are not wrong if your heart overflows in joy at the sight of the full moon or a running child.

Lake Merritt Protest

You are not wrong if you want to be at home with your music and your cats.

You are not wrong if you want to be out in the streets in protest.

You are not wrong if you want to restore your soul in singing or dancing or eating with friends.

You are not wrong to wear a safety pin.

You are not wrong to wear black.

You are not wrong to wear your brightest colors or dye your hair purple.

You are not wrong if you are determined to act now, before another second goes by.

You are not wrong if you want time to develop a strategy.

You are not wrong if you seek to understand people who are different than you.

You are not wrong to declare that some things are simply unacceptable.

You are not wrong to speak out.

You are not wrong to write on social media.

You are not wrong to remain silent until you know what you want to say.

You are not wrong to preserve relationships in spite of profound disagreement.

You are not wrong to block the trolls.

You are not wrong to put limits on what you cannot accept, even from people you love.

You are not wrong if you are dedicated to building diverse coalitions.

You are not wrong if you need to find your people, where you can feel at home.

You are not wrong if you are trying to understand, to know and own the nature of the problem.

You are not wrong if you refuse to unite with that which you find odious.

You are not wrong to go high.

You are not wrong to declare what matters to you.

You are not wrong to hammer on the arc of justice until it bends.

You are wrong if you think that you are the only one.

You are wrong if you place your faith in building walls.

You are wrong if you think we will ever be done.
