RESIST and REJOICE!

RESIST and REJOICE! March 7, 2017

I want to take this moment to rejoice with you that we are not alone, that we have resources, that we are doing the work of justice and right relatedness. I confess that is not necessarily easy or intuitive or glorious, the work of resistance.

Sometimes it looks like plunging toilets and cleaning windows and making groceries and more groceries and changing diapers and changing modes of transportation, being scared, being rage-full, wrestling with bills and cash flow and with each other, us actual human beings who simply cannot show up every day as our best, most likeable and loving selves,

I want to confess all that to be clear that this is not a naïve rejoicing, but a hard-won gratitude, a sustaining joy that reminds me and maybe you, that this is amazing, what we are co-creating and sustaining.

One of my favorite Mardi Gras throws this year was a sticker from the Krewe of Chewbaccus that says “a woman’s place is in the resistance.”

Unitarian Universalism tells all of us our place is in the resistance – to resist anything that tries to destroy the interdependent web of existence, to resist anything that denies the inherent worth and dignity of every person, to resist injustice and inequity and lack of compassion in human relations, to resist limits on our free and responsible search for truth, to resist.

As we practice resisting and rejoicing together and prepare for the June gathering of Unitarian Universalists in New Orleans at General Assembly 2017, here are some more resources for getting ready for our faithful call: http://www.uua.org/ga/ga-prep-resources
