Good morning, all!  I’m back from a three-day trip to St. Louis.  And after a cursory glance at the news this morning I can’t say I’m sad I was away from it for three days.  Ah well, we’ll get to that. It should also be noted that the collaboration blog of which I’m a part here at Patheos, Gods On Coasters, has a new post up. And to get all of us smiling, before the world beats it out of... Read more

Man, Richard Haynes has done a great job of cataloging some of the Christian craziness surrounding Pokemon Go: I’ve had a lot of fun writing about Pokémon Go recently. I told you about the crazy Christian radio host who is ignorant of how Google Maps work. I offered peer-reviewed commentary (okay, not really) of Ken “Yaba Dabba Do” Ham’s  evidence that Pokémon Go confirmed creationism. And, who can forget the awesomeness of Westboro Baptist Church’s Pokémon Go gym? Today, I... Read more

Trump’s senior policy adviser, Stephen Miller, had this to say of the DNC so far: “They spoke in cheap, petty terms beneath the dignity of a convention,” he said. “Their entire message could be summed up as: things are perfect, let’s not change a single thing. So they resorted to the politics of fear, trying to convince Americans not to vote for change. The Trump camp accused other people of resorting to the politics of fear.  Satire is dead. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened: Um… Even the first line of the synopsis on the ivpress site leaves me wondering: In many ways society teaches us to try to have everything under our control. But submission is the only real form of control?  Damn, god is kinky. Is there a part of me that’s twelve years old?  Yup, and it finds this hilarious.  I’ll tag this post as “faith” and “sex”, because why not? Read more

So Donald Trump publicly called on Russia to hack Hillary Clinton: “Russia, if you’re listening I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press,” Trump said during a news conference in Florida. Shortly after his event ended, Trump repeated his call on Twitter. “If Russia or any other country or person has Hillary Clinton’s 33,000 illegally deleted emails, perhaps they should share them with the FBI!”... Read more

This right here makes me damn proud I supported Bernie.  He’s a class act and he gets it: Sadly, I’m seeing on twitter that a gaggle of his supporters have tried to storm the media pavilion (after holding a sit-in there earlier, because apparently it’s all the media’s fault that Clinton got more votes). No seriously, if you take the super delegates out of the equation, Clinton wins.  If they’re in the equation, Hilary still wins.  She got more votes.... Read more

I saw a comment on /r/changemyview yesterday that expressed my thoughts of this forthcoming election far better than I’ve managed to, as of yet.  Enjoy: I posted this elsewhere, but I am going to repost it for you (with slight edits). I hope you see this, OP. First, let me persuade you that the only issue that matters for liberals (and conservatives) in this election is the Supreme Court. It seems possible that the next President, who may serve for... Read more

In my post earlier I criticized the Clinton campaign for immediately picking up ex-DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.  I think, now, I may have been off base.  Considering how I wrote in that post that criticism shouldn’t be about the home team winning, but about consistent ethics applied the same to everybody, regardless of team, I need to explain why and fix it. The email scandal directly involves four high-ranking members of the DNC: Chief Executive Officer Amy Dacey Chief... Read more

My mind about the contents of this post has changed.  Please read this.  I’m going to leave this post up as a reference, but I was wrong about much of its contents. Daniel Moran did a bang up job this weekend in writing about the Wikileaks controversy surrounding the Democratic National Convention. Long story short, the chair of the DNC, high-ranking members of the DNC, Chief Executive Officer Amy Dacey and Chief Financial Officer Brad Marshall, have been shown to have... Read more
