Dear me, I’m a glutton for punishment. I got sent a letter to the editor of The Gazette from Annagail Hoskins (a student and daily reader of The Gazette).  Annagail was upset about a previous article defending atheism and she rushed to Christianity’s defense: He asserts “science is eclipsing religion,” and “modern children and adults” don’t believe in “supernatural myth making.” I don’t know how many children Nicholl has talked to, but most young people I know find purposeful design in the science... Read more

The Tennessee State Senate has passed a bill that would permit therapists to reject patients on the basis of “sincerely held religious beliefs,” a phrase frequently associated with people trying to create a state of inequality for LGBT people, but who want it to sound rosier — like they’re the real victims: Therapists and counselors in Tennessee could decline to treat patients on the basis of “sincerely held religious beliefs” under a bill passed by the state Senate last week.... Read more

I just read an article about a car crash and I wanted to share my thoughts (which are in red) as I took it in: A car burst into flames on 385 [Where was god?  He could’ve prevented that.  I certainly would have if I’d had the power]. Witnesses said the car was hit by another car that kept going [God could’ve alerted the other driver.  Didn’t.]. The crash happened on 385 near the Ridgeway exit ramp. Witnesses said the vehicle went... Read more

Insisting that conservative mouthpiece Breitbart was pro-Trump, Marco Rubio went on Fox News and said some pretty damning things about them on Saturday.  It seems Rubio doesn’t think Breitbart is credible: Rubio: Breitbart News Is “Not A Credible Source” And Its Stories Are “Basically Conspiracy Theories.” In a February 20 interview on Fox News, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) claimed that a report from Breitbart News should be dismissed because Breitbart is “not a credible source.” Rubio went on to criticize... Read more

Michaelyn, Dave, and I went to see Deadpool for Valentine’s Day.  It was one of the best decisions we ever made.  Seriously, if you haven’t seen it yet, stop reading my blog and go see it. The movie is doing so well, in fact, it’s poised to replace The Passion of the Christ as the top grossing R-rated movie of all time: “Deadpool” easily won the battle for heaven and earth at the North American box office in its second... Read more

And the award for weirdest title for a blog post ever goes to… So recently Shane Scott Olney was put on trial for running a cockfighting ring and tried to play the religious liberty card.  It didn’t work: In United States v. Olney, 2016 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 19947 (ED WA, Feb. 18, 2016), a Washington federal district court, after a bench trial, convicted Shane Scott Olney of sponsoring an Unlawful Animal Fighting Venture in violation of 7 U.S.C. § 2156(a)(1).... Read more

Ohio Governor John Kasich, who is painting himself as the moderate among the remaining GOP Presidential candidates, just put the torch to Planned Parenthood’s funding in Ohio: Ohio Gov. John Kasich signed a bill Sunday prohibiting the state from contracting for health services with any organization that performs or promotes abortions, blocking government funds to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood isn’t explicitly named in the legislation, but the law will prevent more than $1 million in funding from the state health... Read more

Literally one week ago I began a post talking about the ongoing lawsuit with the Chino Valley school system in California: The FFRF is in an ongoing lawsuit against the Chino Valley, CA school system since late 2014 over school board meetings opening with bible readings and more (and the FFRF will probably win considering the system already has one instance of failure to appear). Here we are, a week later, and the Freedom From Religion Foundation has won: A Southern California school board... Read more
