Here’s something to chew on (get it?) while I’m away teaching the youngsters how to sing. A study a few years back by Essex University used the idea of zombies to test how people tended to act during evacuations. Researchers at the University of Essex have created a computer game in which players must escape from a crowded building that has been breached by zombie hordes. The scientists, whose findings have been published in the journal Animal Behaviour, used the... Read more

I part of me feels a bit of pity for Jeb Bush, who I suspect was done trying to win the Republican nomination long before now but stayed in due to familial pressure.  He’s finally free: In his speech Saturday, Bush jabbed at Donald Trump, the billionaire businessman and former Atlantic City casino magnate who won the primary Saturday. “In this campaign, I have stood my ground, refusing to bend to the political winds,” he said. “Despite what you might... Read more

The Kentucky State Senate has approved a bill that would create a separate (but equal) marriage form for same-sex couples because if same-sex couples were allowed to use the same form as straight couples it would be disrespectful to straight couples: The primary purpose of the legislation was to remove the names of county clerks from marriage licenses, a response to the controversy surrounding Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis and her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. But... Read more

What a great time.  I seriously love speaking for CASH (the group, but I do also like getting paid).  They’re always so much fun and give me so much freedom with my delivery.  Thanks to Kate, Alex, Andy, Becca, Lucas, Natasha, and everybody else too numerous to name for a wonderful time! Now it is time to nap forever.  See you crazy kids tomorrow! Read more

Hey gang.  It’s voice lesson Wednesday, which means I’m off to batter and abuse my high school students until they sing properly. I was writing my quarterly article for American Atheist Magazine this morning and reviewing some old talks for some details and thought I’d share some of my oldies for all the new people who read my blog.  Enjoy: I really wish in college I had realized sooner that you don’t have to change the world, you just have... Read more

For eight years Dave has lived in this house and not had anybody come by to tell him that Jesus is god. Today that all changed: Meet Jim and Agatha.  I actually forgot her name, but we’ll just go with Agatha. We invited them in and heard their pitch.  Within about five minutes this transition took place: *  The bible is perfect, with nothing lost in transition.  Scribes were very careful about this *  Ok, it’s possible there are errors... Read more

I got asked a while back to return as musical guest at Kansas City Oasis for this past Sunday.  I asked Helen Stringer if, instead of me doing four songs, I could haul in three of my voice students and do one myself.  She let me.  🙂 One of my students had to drop at the last minute, so I wound up doing two songs.  But two of my students, Kameron and Jara, got to sing.  Here ya go: This... Read more

Ok, so back at the end of June of last year the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that the ten commandments monument on the capitol grounds was unconstitutional and had to be removed.  Oh, the Republicans were pissed.  They insisted they were about to impeach the 7 out of the 9 justices that made the ruling.  Gov. Mary Fallin attempted to defy the Court, claiming the monument would stay despite their ruling (and then backing off of that and just trying to be as obstructing as possible).  Then,... Read more
