Remember when Trump said that if he wins the presidency he’d build a wall along the Mexican border and get Mexico to pay for it?  Yeah, it turns out that’s not going to happen: Donald Trump may want to build a wall across the U.S. southern border to keep Mexican migrants out but don’t expect Mexico to pay for it, former President Felipe Calderon told CNBC, calling the billionaire a “not very well-informed man.” The GOP presidential hopeful insisted in... Read more

Jeb Bush’s Super PAC crowdsourced over $300,000 to air this 30 second ad in New Hampshire during the Super Bowl.  It’s George W. Bush telling people to vote for Jeb: Dubya spent about eight years demonstrating that his judgement was…less than stellar — so much so that no other Republican candidate in the last three presidential elections has wanted George anywhere near their campaigns (compare this to Bill Clinton with the Democrats).  I don’t know why Jeb(!)(?)’s political advisers would think... Read more

The following is a guest post for Dr. Peter Coppinger: Why do some people have trouble believing science?” I’m hardly an expert on this, but I can lend my experience as a college professor. From moon-landing hoaxers to anti-vaxxers to creationists to 9/11 conspiracists, there has always been—and will always be—people that dismiss science and hold irrational beliefs in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Here is an important point: I don’t think that disbelief in the efficacy... Read more

At the National Prayer Breakfast the other day Paul Ryan said about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard (so at least he picked the right venue for it): I’ve noticed a growing impatience, though, with prayer in our culture these days. You see it in the papers, or you see it on Twitter. When people we say we’re praying for someone or something, the attitude in some quarters these days is, “Don’t just pray – do something about it!” Thing is, when... Read more

I was talking with my dad about this post (which you’ll need to have read in order to get the joke): My family is brilliant.  Seriously, I stand in envy of my father, mother, and brother.  But it’s so nice that all of us don’t feel the need to take ourselves seriously at all times.  🙂 Read more

Recently elementary students at Kellybrooke Elementary School raised money to feed the homeless for the City Union Mission right here in Kansas City.  This is ordinarily cool — pretty much every atheist is all for helping the homeless (as opposed to, say, constructing enormous masturbatory crosses) — except there’s one problem: that money doesn’t go just to feeding the homeless.  According to the CUM (don’t laugh, don’t laugh…) home page it also goes to spreading the gospel: You can’t have children... Read more

The President visited a mosque recently and he said something I completely agree with.  Even though I think Islam is a horrific religion, bad for humanity, etc., that doesn’t change the fact that people who believe it deserve the same rights and privileges as the rest of us.  The President reaffirmed that: “Let me say as clearly as I can as president of the United States: you fit right here,” Obama told the audience at the Islamic Society of Baltimore,... Read more

The Freedom From Religion Foundation recently got a post office in Pittsburgh, Kansas to take down a banner reading “God Bless America.”  The reaction was hilarious. Charisma News is trying to spin this absolute loss as a victory to the best of their meager ability: An atheist organization targeted a small-town post office to demand they remove their “God Bless America” banner, but that’s not the whole story. The small-town post office was breaking the law.  To say that an... Read more
