Boom! TX Sheriff in Response to Inaction of Fla. Deputy: We Don’t Wait February 28, 2018

Yesterday, Mark Meckler wrote about the series of horrible mistakes the sheriff named Scott Israel made while the Parkland massacre was happening.  Meckler wrote:

The sheriff’s department had been told repeatedly that this shooter was a potential threat. Just three months ago, a tipster said this nineteen year old was potentially a “school shooter in the making.”   The shooter himself even called the police to tell them he was suffering after his mother died. Even though the sheriff’s department (and the FBI) should’ve known this person was possibly planning a school shooting, they did nothing.

And that’s what the officer at the school did as well. Senior Brandon Huff saw an armed school resource officer behind a stairwell wall in a bullet proof vest. He was “just standing there, and he had his gun drawn. And he was just pointing it at the building. And you could — shots started going off inside,” Huff said. “You could hear them going off over and over. And he was just talking on the radio, and he never did anything for four minutes.” It was later reported that three other Broward deputies showed up and stood behind their patrol cars instead of going inside to help fight the shooter.

In response to that terrible inaction, Sheriff Tracy Murphree of Denton, Texas wanted to know that his agency runs differently.  He wrote:

With the recent tragedy in Florida, I wanted to make clear my policy on responding to an active shooter. All commissioned Deputies if you respond to an active shooter you are expected to take immediate action.

We do not stage and wait for SWAT, we do not take cover in a parking lot, and we do not wait for another agency. We go in and do our duty. We go in to engage and stop the shooter and saves lives.

If for any reason you feel you can follow this directive please inform your supervisor and we will work to get you re-assigned.

You can see his letter here, which has this tweeted intro. “Just in case you were wondering. There is NO DOUBT where we stand. Denton County Sheriff’s Office, BUILT ON INTEGRITY!”

I guess that’s clear enough!
