I’m not a rebel or an anarchist. I understand that most given communities need laws and enforcement of those laws to maintain the peace and freedom within that community. But the fact is… the more industrially and technologically proficient our society becomes, the more ridiculous and unsuitable our laws are becoming!
For example, don’t tell me when I can warm my house. That’s right. Where I live in Sacramento County they tell us what days we can light a fire in our fireplaces in our homes. What kind of law tells a man what night he can light a fire?!! I don’t care what some tree huggin Berkley grad says about clean air… is our bad air a result of my wood burning fireplace, or is it from my neighbor’s diesel truck? Does he have a schedule of what days he can drive his truck?
Burn days! That’s a law I’d love to break!
But I think the most frustrating law is the “Hands Free” cell phone law. This is a stupid law. No, I’m not saying that people should be able to text- we’ve written about that before. Texting and driving is about as stupid as typing on a laptop while driving. I’m talking about “talking on a cell phone.” Talking on a cell phone takes one hand. Yes, one hand.
Is eating a candy bar illegal while driving?
Is drinking a coffee illegal while driving?
Then lighten up Johnny law. It’s a phone, not a bong. Besides, these so-called “hands free” devices are so lame that it takes one hand to put it in, and another to tell your phone to switch over to “hand free” …all while driving with your knees. I’m sorry… what’s more unsafe?
Do they make hands free devices for your coffee cup? This isn’t fair? How come a phone needs a “hands free” device but our coffee cup doesn’t need a 3-foot super straw extending from your coffee to your mouth?
Dumb law!
I actually Googled “stupid laws” this week and was quite amused. The lists were hilarious.
– Don’t put an ice cream cone in your back pocket
– Don’t walk backwards after dark
– Don’t shower naked
Actual laws in some states. Hilarious.
I want to break every one of these laws… sigh… but I won’t. Because then, where do you draw the line?
Yeah, I just spent $80 on a “hands free” device. Stupid law! (thank God for freedom of speech!)
