Five Minute Friday: Willing

Five Minute Friday: Willing March 7, 2014

five-minute-fridayI don’t have the slightest idea what to write about. But I’m willing. And that’s pretty much the whole point. To show up.

Writing is about being willing to show up. For life.

There’s been a whole lot of times in my life I wasn’t willing to show up. Some times, you don’t have any choice about showing up (labor and delivery don’t generally happen on a schedule). Other times, I’ve been willing, but I really thought nothing happened. Those times are pretty few and far between. Most of the time, I’m just not willing. I don’t want to be depressed. I don’t want to change these diapers, I don’t want to go to class. I don’t want to wash these dishes.

But that’s what life is. Changing diapers. Going to class. Writing a report. Washing these dishes. And, sometimes, being depressed.

You can write about anything. If you are willing to show up.

I’m joining the flash mob of writers over at LisaJo Baker’s place, which you can find here (for today’s offering), or by clicking on the picture up top for the general gist. The basic idea is that you spend five minutes of writing, generally unedited (I correct typos, WAY too OCD not to do that), on a prompt that she provides on Thursday just after ten p.m. via a tweet, link up, and show some love to another participant. Interested? Write something. Link up. Love on.
