The Busy Witch: Seeking Abundance

The Busy Witch: Seeking Abundance November 12, 2013

[Excerpted from the upcoming book, GODDESS SPELLS FOR BUSY GIRLS.]

Life gets busy fast, especially at this time of year, and most of the time, I let it overwhelm me. But a few years ago, when I was at a group meeting for a local organization, I started to voice my crazy, hectic schedule to the woman standing beside me. “I just don’t know how I’m going to do it all!” She smiled. “You’ll find a way. You are so blessed: look at all the abundance in your life!”

100_1532My first impulse was to smack her. There I was, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and Ms. Pollyanna was telling me that my stressors were actually blessings. Before I could start a fight, I stopped and really thought about what she’d said. Sure, my life is busy, but isn’t that because of the choices I’ve made? If I’m being honest with myself, I thrive on a little bit of chaos, and my lifestyle supplies just the right dose.

But abundance? I scoffed at that idea. Abundance means money and possessions, right? I certainly don’t have a surplus of either.

But there’s more to abundance than that, as my companion recognized that day.  Sure, money is nice, and it’s fun to have a pair of diamond earrings for every day of the week, but these things are just the tip of the abundance iceberg. When I stopped to look for it, I realized that my life is overflowing. I have abundant joy and laughter with my husband, and our friends and family fill our lives with energy and adventure. Even the way I choose to spend my time is a measure of my bounty: I can curl up on the couch of an evening and read a delicious novel, even if that means that tomorrow I’ll have to work a little harder to meet my responsibilities.

Remember: it’s not just about tangible wealth. Abundance is more, well, abundant than that.

How will you honor the abundance in your life?
