Monroe, Michigan -River Raisin National Battlefield Park
The British and Indian reigned victorious against the American army in the bloodiest battle in Michigan, the Battle of Frenchtown in 1812. Those who were not killed were captured, and in the dead of night the Native-Americans slaughtered the prisoners in grotesque ways. Hundreds of families in Kentucky lost their sons and anger rang out from the British to their ally who went behind their back. This incident soon became know as “The River Raisin Massacre” and the rallying cry was “Remember the Raisin”. Re-enactments are common on the bloodied soil, and many today have witnessed seeing the spirits of the soldiers, heard whispers, cries and calls, been touched and had an over all feeling of uneasiness and being watched.
