We all get discouraged and sad, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I post encouraging posts on my Facebook and many times the responses are ‘easier said than done’. Yes, nobody said life was easy, but there are steps to find your spiritual strength.    I know it can be difficult and we so often want to do it by ourselves. That silly thing called pride often gets into the way, doesn’t it. When in doubt, just take the... Read more

Six or so months ago I saw an advertisement for a new fitness class called Barre. Essentially Barre mixes pilates (read about my love for pilates here), dance, yoga and calisthenics to music, and it can include weights, balls, and bands all the while using a dance  barre. When I was younger I took every dance lesson there was, and although that was thirty-five years ago, I am drawn to dance studios and ache to have my dancer body back.... Read more

Summer is always a great time for road trips, that includes the haunted kind. Don’t wait for the leaves to fall and the cider donuts to arrive. Enroute to your Michigan destination don’t forget to visit some favorite haunts. Detroit, Michigan – The Masonic Temple in Detroit Most who visit the Masonic Temple in Detroit go to see a concert or comedian, watch roller derby, or attend a masonic event, but there’s the unseen to visit as well. The halls of The... Read more

The Full Moon shows up in the astrological sign of Capricorn and it may have you feeling sad and questioning your life intentions, including all who are around you – friends, co-workers, work, spouse, etc and wondering where you are going. The best way to work your way out of this somberness is to look at your dreams, aspirations, how you want your life to look like and make small goals as to how that can be accomplished. The Capricorn... Read more

The Detroit riots were a violent altercation that happened on July 23rd and ended just days later with 43 dead, 1,189 injured, over 7,200 arrests, 300 plus families homeless, and more than 2,000 buildings destroyed. The precipitating event was a police raid of an unlicensed, after-hours bar known as the blind pig. I grew up in Detroit, Michigan when it wasn’t cool to say you were from Detroit. I didn’t grow up in a pretty suburb of, but actually Detroit. And no, I don’t... Read more

The New Moon is the darkest phase of the Moon, but it also marks the beginning of the two-week time frame when the Moon moves away from the Sun and increases in light, which it a great time to begin new projects, new love, new careers or anything else new you want to do (or are afraid to do)! Several years back I convinced my husband Chuck to attend a Zac Brown Band concert with me. Although Chuck loves music and was raised with an eclectic musical upbringing ( in the mid 60’s his dad, Charlie Robinette,  worked as the orchestra leader at Detroit’s famous Roostertail and was a recording musician on songs like “Rubberband Man” and “Games People Play”), he’s more of a The Who and  Paul McCartney/Wings fan, but he loves me and he trusts my taste (well, Survivor... Read more

“Let’s have some iced tea and chill in front of the television tonight,” my husband suggested. I’d worked all day, afternoon and evening and I was feeling lousy – just another dog day of summer here in Michigan, so sitting in the cool family room with the idiot box on, not having to think, sounded like a plan. Chuck and I perused the television listings and decided on Celebrity Family Feud since I couldn’t convince him to watch Sister Wives. The... Read more

I woke up at 1 am from a sound sleep in a full blown panic attack. I couldn’t breathe and I was having chest pains. My husband, who typically doesn’t awaken for anything, sat up in the bed and asked if I was okay.  “Yes, I’m good. Go back to sleep,” I told him, patting him on the arm.  The next morning he asked me again if I was okay and how I slept.  “Oh, I woke up with a... Read more
