Former Imperial Pilot, Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) defects to join the Rebel Alliance against Imperial Forces. The Actor Riz Ahmed, is himself a British Muslim of Pakistani descent. Enough Said! Just Kidding, but it’s definitely great to see more people of color and especially Muslim Actors in big name movies such as Star Wars and others. In Rogue One, Bodhi joins the small group of Rebels who go on the “suicide mission” to the plant Scarif in order to steal the plans for the Death Star so the Rebel Alliance will be able to destroy the “Weapon of Mass Destruction”! Although suicide in itself is frowned upon in Islam, as in most other religious beliefs including mainstream Christianity and Judaism, if one sacrifices themselves for the “greater good” such as defending the innocent against an evil empire, then one would be considered a hero. Note that no religion, including Islam, condones suicide bombings against innocent civilians or even against so-called “military targets”, but if you are defending your country, or homeland (or home planet) against an occupying force or foreign invader, then you would be remembered for doing something good, such as the fictional characters in Rogue One, who sacrificed themselves in order for a more peaceful and secure future for all.
