Preliminary studies in rats seem to link intermittent fasting with increased longevity. This is yet to be confirmed in humans, but the results are promising and may have to do with lowering of cholesterol and its effects on free radicals (see below) as well as its effects on insulin resistance and IGF-1 as noted in earlier slides.
