New Topic: Politics

New Topic: Politics February 3, 2006

Thanks to a somewhat recent post on Nacho’s Woodmore Village Blog (“Buddhist Blogs and the Political” January 8th, 2006) I’ve added a new category to my blog, ‘Politics’. It’s no promise that I’ll say much of substance, of course, but I’ll try to say a few words here and there….

I’m reluctant to post on politics because I’m no political analyst, and I don’t care to pretend to be one. Philosophy and Buddhism I’ve studied with zeal for several years. I enjoy blogging about these as a way to share and to explore issues more deeply. My life is easy enough to drivel on about. Many of my more personal posts, and the comments accompanying them, have helped immensely in my continuing journey to self-understanding.

And while I think I’m like many Americans, somewhat apathetic due to the sheer complexity of modern political issues, I agree with Nacho’s argument that practice both demands and may be improved by our political engagement. One thing I am not, and will never be, is cynical – and perhaps soon enough I will take up the issue of cynicism in politics.
