Back on track. I think a fair amount of the meat of my Ph.D. is already floating around, in rough form, on my various blogs. Time now to gather it!

Sept 25, 2005: Kant/Buddhism on the Good Life: review of current Buddhological attitudes (Buddhism is Aristotelian) and an attempt to show the non-teleological nature of Buddhist soteriology. Likewise for Kant, a clear deontologist with we’ll say pragmatic overatures toward a virtue-ethics.
For both Kant and Buddhism, their is a process given/prescribed to take the individual away from egotistical life: the ever pressing desires and inclinations, and toward altruistic morality.
Kant’s three steps – think for yourself, listen, and be consistent. And Buddhism’s Kalama Sutta. Knowing for oneself – the emphasis on just giving, living “fully in and through the dharma.”
Jan 31, 2008: In Search of Buddhist Ethics: Working with Howard on Kant, away from his empty formulas. Buddhism too has its seemingly empty concepts such as non-self (anattā) and dhamma, but in practice these are tied to real moral practices and cultivations (as they are in Kant).
