Lovin’ Taiwan

Lovin’ Taiwan

No time for a lengthy post unfortunately, or at least I don’t have the patience in this heat (sitting outside a bookstore with wifi because it’s so packed inside).

I’m at Fo Guang Shan now, in the south of the country, enjoying the sounds of chanting on one side and Taiwanese tourists chatting and eating iced cream on the other. A man with a heavily panting Chihuahua sits in front of me, seemingly impervious to the heat and humidity that is producing a near constant stream of sweat on my brow.

Today at lunch we had a minor earthquake – nothing too alarming, but two solid tremors shaking the whole dining hall beneath us. Having never been through an earthquake I just thought “wow, these floors are flimsy and the servers must be kind of fat…” But no, it was an earthquake. Nobody seemed to mind much, so I didn’t either.

Beyond that, all is well and peaceful and I’m due back to my air conditioned room to cool off before our next session.  Cheers for now…
