Writer, scholar-practitioner, and all around good guy Chuck Prebish emailed me last week to mention another stellar student journal, the Intermountain West Journal of Religious Studies.
As they state on their webpage:
The journal is unique in two ways:
- The IMW Journal is entirely student run with an academic review board consisting exclusively of scholars in the field. The staff consists of USU students; Two students act as editors in chief one as managing editor and a small team of six to ten serve as associate editors. Though student editors participate in screening submissions, membership on the academic review board is limited to professional scholars.
- The IMW Journal seeks submissions from students throughout the United States and the world. Whereas the vast majority of undergraduate or graduate journals limit submissions to their respective universities, the IMW Journal actively promotes the study of religion across the globe. The journal is enhanced through diversity.
You’ll find articles on a wide range of topics, including one very good one by an undergraduate, TJ McDonald, titled, “Ameriyana: The Western Vehicle of the Buddha Dharma,” a very balanced and comprehensive survey of Buddhism’s journey to America.
I have to add that I love the aesthetics of the site, which make me long to return ‘home’ to that part of the world.
Well done, USU students and faculty!
