4. Make sex a priority.
When we’re going through an emotionally hard time, sex is often placed on the back burner. But, it’s an important part of our marriage, and it keeps us close and connected. There are times when illness or distance can prevent us from making love, but if we are physically able to be intimate, we must make it a priority.
With emotions running high in the wake of a tragedy, it may take us some time for our minds and hearts to get into a romantic mode. But, we can get there if we try. It starts with us being vulnerable with our spouse. As discussed in number 1, we must talk about what we’re going through and lay it all out on the table. These kind of conversations bring us closer together and open us up to being more physically intimate with our spouse. Another way we can stay romantically connected during hard times is through physical affection. Instead of retreating and trying to handle things on our own, we need to reach out to our spouse with physical affection. Never underestimate the power of a hug, a kiss, or holding hands with your spouse. All of these acts of affection keep us physically connected to our spouse and it fans the flame of romance in our marriage.
