2. Support the rich, often at the expense of the poor and the needy. The recently passed tax reform legislation unduly favors the very rich. Sure there are some breaks for the lower income groups but the largest benefit /tax cuts go to the highest income bracket, and the corporations(corporate tax rate cut from 35% to 21%). The argument is that by helping the corporations grow, their profits will have a trickle down effect to benefit the employees.
There may be some truth to that but once again the big brother gets the biggest break. This is also projected to cost the government trillions of dollars in the next ten years. The fear is that the resulting (likely) budget deficit will prompt the calls to cut the benefits to the poor- such as social services and health services to the low income families by curtailing funding for Medicaid). The net result will be the opposite of what Jesus strived for.
