Once again, Donald Trump shows that despite the Republican party’s claim for the love of Jesus, it acts very Unchristian. Yesterday’s threat to send buses full of immigrants from south of the border to the sanctuary cities, typically supported by Democrats, is yet another example of how far Trump and the Republicans have moved away from the teachings of the Bible.

Following are some of the excerpts from his statements and tweets yesterday.

Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only….

….The Radical Left always seems to have an Open Borders, Open Arms policy – so this should make them very happy!

“We can give them a lot. We can give them an unlimited supply,”

This not only sounds un-presidential, un-American but also very unchristian. As a Muslim, I know I have no business telling a Christian he is acting unchristian, but this is a blatant example of hypocrisy.

These immigrants are people- human beings, not political pawns. And despite his insistence that they are criminals, these refugees include children and women. For him to use them as “punishment” to the Democrats, or as a bargaining tool to bring the Democrats to agree to his proposal to build the wall is a new low even from his own standards.

It also divides Americans between “us” and “them”, as if we are un-United States of America, made of anti-immigrant Republicans and the sanctuary cities supporting Democrats.

Great job leading the nation!

The statements were widely condemned by many Democrats, including the leaders of the sanctuary cities and the governor of California and Nancy Pelosi, who is from San Francisco- probably the most prominent of the sanctuary cities. Through her spokesperson, she issued the following statement:

The extent of this administration’s cynicism and cruelty cannot be overstated. Using human beings — including little children — as pawns in their warped game to perpetuate fear and demonize immigrants is despicable, and in some cases, criminal. …

Senator Edward J. Markey, Democrat of Massachusetts, a state with several sanctuary cities, criticized the president’s proposal.

Trump’s plan to release migrants into ‘enemy’ cities as if they are some kind of contagion is reprehensible,” “Trump is obsessed with the border and sanctuary cities because he only wins by dividing people.

And as to the teachings of the Bible?

….He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.  So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt. Deuteronomy 10: 17-19

I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.
Matthew 25:35

Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.
Romans 12:13

I have yet to see any Republican leader or their evangelical supporters, issuing a statement to criticize this unchristian stance. They seem to have forgotten the Biblical teachings on how to receive and care for the widows, the children among the “foreigners”.

It seems the ‘faithless’ party is the one that is acting more in line with the teachings of Jesus, than the party claiming to be the ‘protectors’ of Christian faith. Unfortunately, this is not the only time Trump has acted this way. Yet another example of why they are pushing people away from the faith, and the party of exclusiveness. Not saying they are the only reason, but they are contributing to it.
