Sunday inspiration: Drink your tea

Sunday inspiration: Drink your tea August 17, 2014

as if it is the axis
on which the world earth revolves
– slowly, evenly, without
rushing toward the future;
Live the actual moment.
Only this moment is life.

– Thich Nhat Hahn

In many cultures, the act of drinking tea seems to solve every problem.  “Here, have a cup of tea” is the standard prescription for disaster in every British television program.  Many Asian countries have complex social rituals designed around the brewing and serving of tea.

Right now the entire world is in great distress and has been for quite some time.  But inside of our own being, in our own hearts, we can still find a sense of peace and the knowledge that as life rebalances itself we will soon find our footing once again.

I love this poem by Thich Nhat Hahn for its simplicity.  Focusing on the present, bringing all attention to the simplest act of sipping tea, brings everything into focus and weaves us seamlessly back into the unfolding perfection that is our life.
