The 2020s have been a doozy so far – and 2023 has been no different.

As we close out the year, I wanted to pause and reflect on the inner work resources, practices, and tools I’ve developed over the past 355-odd days. Reflection is, after all, an inner work practice in and of its own.

To that end, below is a list of inner work resources (mostly free) I’ve created this year. I hope the practices, worksheets, and articles here support you in your personal and spiritual growth and development.

1. 25 Weeks of Wisdom Teachings

Get every teaching shared through the Wednesday 1-2-3 for the first 25 weeks of 2023 all in one place. Learn from wisdom teachers like Richard Rohr, Mirabai Starr, Gabor Mate, Cole Arthur Riley, Rumi, Howard Thurman, and more! Check it out here.

2. 5 Days to Get Off Autopilot

If you’re feeling adrift, lost, confused about your life’s meaning, or as if you’re running on autopilot, this free email series is for you. Over the course of five days, you’ll receive daily inner work lessons and guidance for becoming more aware of your aliveness and the role you hold in your community.

3. Defensiveness/Shadow Tracker

In somatic experiencing, one of the fundamental components of inner work is awareness. Makes sense. This resource is a daily tracker for you to notice where and when during the day you’re experiencing defensiveness (which can often point to a place in which there is examination to be done.) Access the Defensiveness/Shadow Tracker here.

4. The Wednesday 1-2-3

Started on January 4, 2023, the Wednesday 1-2-3 has now had 50 editions and counting. It has been one of the greatest joys of this year for me. Each week, I share a teaching from a mystic, poet, trauma specialist, or other wisdom teacher and provide a couple questions and resources to support folks in going deeper in their inner work. Check it out for free here.

5. 30-Day Inner Work Cohort (now open for registration!)

This one isn’t free; but it is pay-what-you-want. In February 2024, I’ll be leading this 30-day cohort focused on supporting you find and engage a daily practice that brings together the person you are with the person you’re becoming. If you’re feeling like you’ve been on a hamster wheel, this 30-day program might be for you.

6. A Framework for Gathering in Small Groups

This is one of my favorites! For the last decade I’ve led small groups and group-based inner work. This is the framework and container I use in those group settings.

7. Mapping the Johari Window Worksheet

The Johari Window is a phenomenal tool for our inner work…but without a worksheet or some guidance, it can be hard to know how to use. I’ve created this worksheet to go along with the framework. Just print it off and spend an hour processing each of the four quadrants in your life.

8. What is Shadow Work?

Each of us has stories we’d prefer to leave unexamined and in the darkness of our lives. And yet, when we do this, those stories – those shadows – tend to wreak havoc on us. What’s worse? Our communities and society at large both have shadows as well. Because of this, both individual and communal healing are dependent on our ability to do our shadow work and face these stories in kind and gentle ways. Learn more about shadow work here.

9. A Framework for Understanding “Freedom”

Every 4th of July, I face a crisis: silently go along with the narrative of American exceptionalism and freedom or attempt to name the hard truth – that we aren’t free. In this article, I lay out (with a huge assist from Brian McLaren) the current shape of our “freedom” and why it’s vital we begin to question narratives that perpetuate it.

As we move into 2024, may we do so with more intention, purpose, and an embodied commitment to both our own inner work and the communal healing our society so desperately needs.
