10 Bible Verses Announcing The Birth Of Jesus Christ

There is no better time than the Christmas season to familiarize ourselves with the Bible better. Throughout this busy time, may we never forget the true meaning of Christmas and why we celebrate the holidays.

Following are 10 verses taken from the Douay-Rheims Version (DRA) of the Bible that can help us as we reflect upon the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

1. Isaiah 7:14 – The Virgin Birth Prophesied

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel.”

This was fulfilled through the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through her, Jesus Christ was conceived and born. It was through her obedience, faith and total surrender to the will of God.

2. Micah 5:2 – Where Jesus Will Be Born

“And thou Bethlehem Ephrata, art a little one among the thousands of Judah: out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be the ruler in Israel: and his going forth is from the beginning, from the days of eternity.”

God’s plan was so intricate and personal that even the very place where Jesus would be born had long been prophesied. It was in Bethlehem where the Messiah was born!

3. Genesis 3:15 – A Savior Was Promised Through The Woman

“I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.”

This was right after the fall. Even then, God already knew how He would save us. It was through the seed of the woman foretold (who was the Virgin Mary) that the evil one would be defeated.

4. Isaiah 9:6 – The Messiah’s Coming

“For a child is born to us, and a son is given to us, and the government is upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counsellor, God the Mighty, the Father of the world to come, the Prince of Peace.”

The One foretold was no ordinary man or king. His Divine nature had been announced, and to this were many references and names that we can only attribute to God.

5. Jeremiah 23:5 – The Righteous Branch From David

“Behold the days come, saith the Lord, and I will raise up to David a just branch: and a king shall reign, and shall be wise, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.”

It was through the line of David that the Messiah shall be born, and the genealogy of Jesus contained in the very first chapter of the Gospel according to Matthew proves this.

6. Numbers 24:17 – The Prophecy About The Star and The King

“I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not near. A star shall rise out of Jacob, and a scepter shall spring up from Israel.”

The scepter refers to Jesus as the King of Kings, while the star can refer to the one that guided the Magis when they visited our Savior.

7. John 1:14 – The Word Became Flesh

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

God did not simply watch over us from afar. He dwelt among us and became man. He walked among us and loved us right where we were.

8. Luke 2:10-11 – The Angels and the Shepherds

“And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people: For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.'”

The Good News was announced to the humble and the poor so that we may know that God came to save not only the rich and those well-known in the world. Jesus comes for us, too. May we follow Him and rejoice just like the shepherds did!

9. Psalm 72:10-11 – The Prophetic Visit of the Magis

“The kings of Tharsis and the islands shall offer presents: the kings of the Arabians and of Saba shall bring gifts. And all kings of the earth shall adore him: all nations shall serve him.”

The Old Testament foretold the visit of the Magis who will bring gifts to the Messiah.

10. Isaiah 9:2 – The Light Comes

“The people that walked in darkness, have seen a great light: to them that dwelt in the region of the shadow of death, light is risen.”

The world walks in the darkness of sin. Without God, we don’t know what is right from wrong nor would we have the strength to accomplish what was right. Jesus came to us so that He may reveal the Light to the world.

The Coming of the King

The Good News all points to the coming of the King of Kings. It has been announced long before Jesus was born, a plan of salvation for us all that we may believe. Let us never forget that this is the true reason for the season. God has dwelt among us and all of those who believe in Jesus Christ shall be saved!
