How to Have Fun on the Fourth–Experience Boston! 2015-03-13T23:08:10-04:00

My sister Laura and I went to the Hard Rock Cafe Hall in Orlando last night. Our mission? To see ‘long time’ favorite rock impresarios Boston. Yes, it is true that Brad Delp, the former lead singer died in 2007. Yes it is true there are several new players in the band. But Tom Scholz was always the heart and sole and song writer of this group and his story, and music is compelling. Tom is an MIT grad and an electronic whiz. He was at MIT when I was at Gordon Conwell. And his first album which became an overnight sensation was mostly recorded in his basement. What Tom brought to rock n’ roll was electronic innovations that made all sorts of new sounds come out of a guitar. What he also brought to the table was great guitar and Hammond B3 organ playing along with his fine song writing craft.

The concert began a little late, but the crowd was large and noisy, full of veteran rock concert attenders. They were pumped, and Boston did not disappoint. They ripped through all of their hits and various other tunes in about one hour and 30 minutes, and then did a couple of encores as well. Favorite Boston songs—- Long Time, More than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Amanda, Cool the Engines. It is true that the audience was mostly my age or five or so years younger. Not all geezers with tweezers, but I’d rather see bands who can still play and sing good songs that are from my generation, revitalized geezers, than someone like Weezer. A good time was had by all— it was ‘more than a feeling’. It was a fun experience with my sis L.J.
