The Sauciness of Worcestershire

The Sauciness of Worcestershire June 15, 2013

No this is not a little Swiss or German village with a clock tower. This is Ledbury where my friends the Keyes are going to retire. I’m not sure that you can get to Ledbury on a canal barge from Worcester, but there are hundreds of such barges on the canals in the area. Below we have a picture of my friend Tim Keyes and his dog Tom by the barge parking lot in Worcester.

Worcester has a certain holiday or saucy feel to it, when you see all these people living on barges, at least in the better months of the year, and floating up and down rivers and canals all over the southern part of England. In the barge parking lot however, people are constanting barging in… if you catch my drift.

This is not to say there are not long standing rules in Worcester and Ledbury… for example…

And of course there are magistrates in Worcester–

They tend to drive flashy cars like this vintage Morgan coupe….

And they are constantly swanning off to posh dinners..

(N.B. Worcester is a swan sanctuary with hundreds of them parked on the Severn River, getting fat from tourist feedings).

Behold a nice Georgian house next to the cathedral where the bishop of the diocese lives. And below, notice the sort of plates these posh dinners are served on. That little circular attachment is for your wine or sherry glass of course…. (appletiser for Methodists of course).

As for my friends Tim and Mary Anne, they will be swanning off a simpler life in Ledbury… and God bless them every one! They will still be as much fun as ever, but with less Worchestershire sauce, since they will be out of that shire altogether.
